Subwoofer's Story

* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 18th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.
All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.

Adoption fee: $650
Subwoofer: The Smartest Pup on the Block

Subwoofer's story started out tough, but you'd never know it from the joyful, goofy puppy he is today.

This 6-7 month old ACD/Husky mix came to DPS as a tiny puppy from a Central Valley shelter, gravely ill with parvo. Thanks to dedicated care, determination, and a fighting spirit that far exceeded his size, Woofie overcame the odds and made a full recovery. Today, he's thriving, learning new things every day, and filling his foster home with laughter, enthusiasm, and the occasional thunderous tail wag.

Smart, Silly, and Ready to Learn

If there is one thing everyone notices about Subwoofer, it's his brain.

This boy loves learning. When he first arrived in foster care, he only knew 'sit.' Since then, he has added an impressive list of skills to his resume, including down, shake, high five, heel, crate, leave it, drop it, wait, gentle, quiet, and off. He's still polishing his skills, but his eagerness to learn and food motivation make training a joy.

Subwoofer is the kind of dog who genuinely wants to work with his people. Whether you're teaching a new trick, practicing manners, or introducing a puzzle toy, he's all in.

His foster family believes he has all the ingredients to become one of those dogs people stop and admire because of how well-trained and engaged he is.

The Perfect Mix of Energy and Cuddles

Like any young ACD/Husky mix, Subwoofer has plenty of energy and loves to play. He enjoys toys of all kinds, especially balls, squeaky toys, ropes, stuffies, and durable chews. He alternates between bursts of activity and epic puppy naps, often sleeping harder than he plays.

When he's not busy being a puppy, he's surprisingly affectionate. One of his favorite cuddle moves is shoving his face into the crook of your arm and settling in close. He isn't a Velcro dog, but he likes knowing where his people are and often chooses a spot nearby to keep an eye on things.

And then there are the ears.

The giant ears.

The glorious ears.

They seem to have a personality all their own.

A Day in the Life of Woofie

Subwoofer starts his mornings around 7:00 a.m. and waits patiently in his covered crate until it's time to get up. After a potty break, he enjoys breakfast served in a wobble Kong, snuffle mat, or puzzle toy, because using his brain is almost as fun as eating.

His days are filled with a healthy balance of walks, training, playtime, naps, and chew sessions. He happily lounges on the couch, sprawls out in the middle of the floor, naps in his bed, or quietly hangs out nearby while his foster works.

At bedtime, he does something many adopters only dream about: he sprints into his crate on his own. Cover the crate, and he'll sleep soundly through the night without a peep.

Social Butterfly in Training

Subwoofer loves other dogs.

He's met dogs of all sizes and has done wonderfully with them, including during off-leash playgroups. Sometimes his enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming, but he's actively learning canine social skills and how to recognize when another dog wants to play—or would rather be left alone.

A playful canine companion could be a great match for him, though it's certainly not required.

He's also met cats and has done well, and he's lived successfully with teenagers. In fact, his foster family jokes that he particularly loves teenagers because they're at the same stage of life: energetic, enthusiastic, and occasionally making questionable decisions.

Adventures on Leash

Subwoofer enjoys his walks and loves to stop and sniff the world around him. He's making great progress with loose-leash walking and learning to walk in heel.

While he may occasionally bark when he sees another dog or person he'd like to meet, he's responding well to training and improving every day. Birds are particularly fascinating and may inspire a little extra enthusiasm.

House-Trained and Crate-Trained

Subwoofer is house-trained when given regular potty breaks and has excellent crate manners.

His crate is one of his favorite places, and he happily runs into it for meals, treats, and bedtime. When left home alone, he settles comfortably with enrichment activities and does very well.

Like many puppies his age, he's currently finishing up teething and appreciates having appropriate chew toys available.

His Perfect Home

Subwoofer is looking for a family that will continue investing in his training and give his active brain productive outlets.

He would thrive with adopters interested in activities like agility, scent work, trick training, hiking, or any adventure that allows him to learn and engage with his people. He doesn't need a dog sibling, but he'd likely enjoy having a playful canine friend.

Most importantly, he needs a family that recognizes what a special dog he is and is excited to help him reach his enormous potential.

Why You'll Love Subwoofer

Subwoofer is one of those dogs who leaves an impression.

Maybe it's his giant ears.

Maybe it's the way his tail thumps so enthusiastically against the floor that it sounds like a drumline.

Maybe it's the way he gallops across the house like a tiny elephant whenever he hears the possibility of food.

Or maybe it's because behind all the puppy antics is an incredibly resilient dog who survived a rough start and emerged as a happy, loving, endlessly entertaining companion.

Subwoofer is smart, goofy, affectionate, trainable, and full of life. He's the kind of dog who will make you laugh every day and make you proud every step of the way.

And if you're ever making a smoothie, just know he'll be watching from a safe distance. Those giant ears have their limits.

If you're looking for a best friend, adventure buddy, and training partner all wrapped up in one very adorable package, Subwoofer is ready to turn up the volume on your life.VIDEO: https://youtube.com/shorts/c2b-rLXojR8?feature=share
