Strawberry's Story

Strawberry
11 lbs Chihuahua mix Approximately 9-12 months old
Spayed, up to date on preventatives

Strawberry is the kind of dog who makes you earn her trust a little... and then quietly becomes obsessed with you.

She's a tiny reddish-brown Chihuahua mix with soulful eyes and a surprising amount of wiggle. When she's happy, she army crawls across the couch, rolls over to get belly pets, and pauses every so often to stare at the TV like she's trying to follow the plot. She's recently discovered toys, loves snuggling, and gives very sincere little kisses.

She's still a shy dog. New people and places are hard for her at first, and she needs space and time for a little bit before she feels safe. But the fun part of Strawberry is getting to watch her get braver. Every day she tries something new, gets a little more confident, and lets more of her personality show.

She's crate trained and does well sleeping overnight in an x-pen setup. She's also doing really well with potty training - about 90% there - but she's young and still learning, so she'll need someone patient and attentive as she settles into a new routine.

She gets along well with the people and other small dogs in her foster home and would likely benefit from a calm, confident dog companion, but would also be fine as a solo dog.

Strawberry's best home will be one that understands shy dogs and doesn't expect instant confidence. She needs someone willing to give her space, consistency, and encouragement without overwhelming her. She's not the dog who's going to walk into a room acting like she owns it. She's the dog who watches carefully from the sidelines... and then one day ends up curled against you like she's always belonged there.

If you're interested in adopting Strawberry, submit an application at hopeanimals.org!
