Stitch's Story

**APPLICATION REQUIRED BEFORE AN ADOPTION CAN BE CONSIDERED**

Meet Stitch!

Stitch is a sweet little 2-year-old neutered male who weighs approximately 12 pounds. He came to Suffolk Humane Society after his owner was hospitalized. Stitch and several other dogs had never received regular veterinary care or grooming, and their coats had become severely matted.

Suffolk Humane Society has fully vetted Stitch and is giving him the care, patience, and attention he needs to begin his next chapter. His severe matting required extensive grooming, and his coat had to be shaved in areas to remove the mats safely. His fur will grow back, and with regular grooming, he will be much more comfortable going forward.

Stitch is still learning that people and new experiences can be safe. He can be shy and somewhat shut down at first, but he is making progress as he receives individual attention and begins to experience the routines of a loving home. His personality is continuing to emerge, and his foster family is getting to know the sweet little dog underneath all of the uncertainty.

Stitch is also working on potty training and will need an adopter who understands that this process may take time. He is learning something new every day, and his progress will depend on patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

Stitch is looking for a patient and understanding family who will allow him to settle in at his own pace. He is not looking for perfection. He needs someone who will give him the security, routine, and individual attention necessary to build confidence and discover what it means to be a beloved family pet.

A securely fenced yard is required and Stitch will go home with a clip-style martingale collar because he can make sudden movements when startled. Children under 10 may not be the best match for Stitch, depending on the individual circumstances of the home.

Because Stitch is still discovering his personality and gaining confidence, some information about his behavior may continue to change as he becomes more comfortable. His foster family can provide the most current information about his progress. In some circumstances, a visit in the foster's home may be arranged to help determine whether Stitch is a good match.

Stitch has already experienced a lot of change. Now he needs someone willing to give him the time, patience, and love to learn that he is finally safe.**

Adoption Requirements

* Completed adoption application required
* $210 adoption fee
* Home visit
* Veterinary reference
* Securely fenced yard
* Commitment to patience, consistency, continued potty training, and regular grooming

Suffolk Humane Society will contact applicants who have completed an application.
