Stewart P's Story

*THE SWEET, GOOFY GENTLE GIANT READY TO STEAL YOUR HEART!*

Hi everyone, Stewart here!

I've been patiently waiting for my forever home, and I hope my family finds me soon.

I'm a gentle, sweet, goofy guy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. I'm affectionate, handsome (if I do say so myself!), and I absolutely love being brushed, groomed and spoiled with attention.

I’m a great mix of adventure buddy and lounging companion. I enjoy walks, exploring the yard and checking out everything around me, but when it’s time to relax, I’m perfectly happy settling down and hanging out with my people.

And speaking of walks—apparently I’m pretty impressive! I walk nicely on a leash without reacting to other dogs, people or passing vehicles. I’m curious about the world around me and like to stop and investigate all the interesting smells along the way. I’m also usually very excited to meet new people and dogs. Sometimes I get really excited and try to give people one of my famous Stewart hugs by standing up and putting my paws on their shoulders. We’re working on keeping all four paws on the ground, but what can I say? I’m a big guy with a lot of love to give!

I’m also learning my manners. I’m getting the hang of Sit and Down, especially with hand signals. I’m learning Place for my crate, and my recall is improving. I've been told I’m very observant and eager to learn. I’ll need a family willing to continue giving me structure, consistency and guidance. I promise to bring plenty of personality to our training sessions!

I can be mouthy when I’m excited or playing. I have a soft mouth and am never trying to hurt anyone, but because I’m so large and strong, my playful wrestling, paws and puppy mouth can be too much for smaller children. An adult home or one with older, dog-savvy children would be the best fit for me.

I absolutely love other dogs and would be happiest with an active, playful canine companion who can keep up with me and help show me the ropes. I’m not food or toy possessive, and I happily share with my canine friends. Cats, however, are much too exciting for me. I become very focused on them and want to chase, so I need a home without cats or other small, prey-sized pets.

At home, I’m comfortable in my crate and will even go into it on my own. It’s my safe place when thunder or another loud noise makes me nervous. I’d still benefit from being crated when my family is away while I continue learning what is—and isn’t—considered a Stewart-approved chew toy.

One of my cutest features? When I’m feeling playful, I do a classic Pyr pounce, complete with goofy jumps before landing right on my tummy.

I’m still a work in progress, but aren’t we all? What I already have figured out is how to be sweet, affectionate, funny, gentle and incredibly lovable. I just need someone willing to give me the patience, guidance and consistency I need to become the amazing dog everyone already sees in me.

My ideal home will have a securely fenced yard with a fence at least 6 feet high and another dog to be my sidekick, playmate and best buddy!

More than anything, I just want a family to call my own. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh, keep you active and shower you with affection, I just might be your perfect match.

I can't wait to meet you!

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Atlanta's Adoption Policy
Great Pyrenees are the southeasts best kept secret. We are a magnificent and majestic breed that is one of the best dogs a family can own - we really are. We are gentle giants loved by all because we combine two characteristics that are hard to beat. First, we are terrific family pets. We are lovable and gentle with children - we love them even when they treat us like massive fluff balls! Second, and where we differ from most house pets, we are protectors. I tend to be the witty observer but my big brother Jenkins is a typical Great Pyrenees and he is amazing as he patrols our property watching for anything unusual. He takes his job very seriously. Great Pyrenees were bred as working dogs and our "job" in the home is to protect our "family". We have regular adoption days - usually every other Saturday from 11am until 1 pm at the Perimeter Petsmart in Atlanta, GA visit our website to see current adoption days
