Steve's Story

BASIC FACTS

Breed: Dachshund mix
Color: Red
Age: 10 years
Gender: Male, neutered
Size: Small (12 pounds)
House-trained: Yes
Crate trained: Yes (prefers to be in the same room with you)
Good with Kids: Unknown, but he’s so sweet we think he would be fine
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Concerns: He doesn’t like being alone - needs the company of another dog or a person; seems to have difficulty hearing; has been dribbling urine - we hope that will resolve since he’s now neutered

BIOGRAPHY

Meet Steve!

He is a delightful 12 pounds of fluff who wandered into a stranger’s yard one day in March. Efforts to find his family were unsuccessful. After a brief placement that wasn’t the right fit, he made his way to Sophia’s Grace Foundation where we quickly fell in love and made sure he got the veterinary care he badly needed.
Steve is now fully vetted, and on the mend after a neuter and extensive dental work; he has been treated for ear infections and an eye infection. For the first time in a long time, he’s living pain free—and it shows.
He doesn’t have functional hearing though he seems to respond to some very loud sounds. Because of his hearing impairment, his adopter will need to take special care with his safety and communicate with him other than verbally.
Steve had incontinence initially (dribbling) but that is greatly minimized since his neuter,
but he still drips a bit of urine.
Now for the best part: Steve is super sweet, easygoing, and appreciates affection. He is well-mannered – not a jumper or a licker. He’s done wonderfully with two resident dachshunds. He enjoys the company of small dogs and humans.
An older guy, Steve, has good energy and happily keeps up with younger dogs. He’s made a bestie of the most energetic resident dog and follows him most everywhere. He is a quick learner, and he accepts correction for serious matters.
Steve is house trained, walks nicely on a leash, and absolutely loves being outside. He prefers not to be alone and would do best in a home where he has companionship. He’s not a barker, but he will let you know if he’s feeling lonely, needs to come inside, or if strangers are nearby. He’s had no destructive behaviors.
It’s clear someone loved Steve once—and he’s more than ready to love again. He trusts easily, even when you’re tending to his ears or giving eye drops, and he’s just waiting for someone to give him the safe, caring home he deserves.
Steve is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Sylvania, OH and is available for an adoption fee of $300.00.

If you are interested in adopting, please submit an application
online at www.sophiasgracefoundation.org
