Meet Stella

Stella had a doggy DNA test with Wisdom Panel and she is a purebred American Staffordshire Terrier! Her test results will be given to her adopter. Here's your chance to have a purebred dog and not use a breeder, you can adopt Stella!

**********************
Required to adopt Stella:
1. Secure fenced in yard.
2. No other dogs. She does not get along with other dogs.
3. No cats. We have not had her around cats so do not know how she would do. But do not want to risk a cat getting hurt to find out.
4. Your own personal excellent vet reference.
5. Experienced dog owner. Would be awesome if you have dog training skills and work with Stella on obedience.
6. Older children. Stella would never on purpose hurt a child. She does have a lot of energy and is very enthusiastic when she plays so might knock a little one over by accident.

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE: To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in.

Here is the Dog Application that you can copy and paste into a browser: https://fs17.formsite.com/waverlypetrescue/form028182466/index.html

Stella was a stray in Bremer County, Iowa. She did not get claimed and her time was up. So Stella is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog. She is now up to date on shots, dewormed, treated with Frontlline, tested heartworm negative, started on heartguard and spayed.

Stella is about 2-1/2 years old as of March 2021 and weighs about 45 pounds. We got Stella Friday afternoon, 2 days ago. She is doing great. So happy! Lots of tail wags and kisses given. She is really sweet and fun. She likes to play by herself with toys. She has a lot of energy. She is very well mannered with feeding and taking treats, and just a good girl in general. She won't go outside on her own yet. I have to come out and stand at the door while she does her business. So far, she appears to be housebroken. She goes into her kennels with treat motivation, but doesn't like being in there. At night, it takes her a little bit to settle down, but not too long and then she is fine all night. She has already become my buddy and enjoys the pets and snuggles I give her. All in all, so far, she seems to be a great dog.

8/17/20 UPDATE: Stella has been in her foster home for over a week now. It is slow going with her and the other dog in the home. She growls and charges at the other dog. The foster home is working on trying to train her and work in her with this. They are keeping Stella and their dog away from each other. Other than that, Stella is a wonderful dog, and has become quite the big baby. I have spoiled her with attention and she loves it. She is a little unsure of new people, but with proper introduction and patience she is fine. She seems to know her name already and how to sit on command. Even if we do get her to co-mingle with our dog, I'm not sure how she would be with another dog without a lot of work. For now, we are going to say Stella needs a home with no other dogs. If things change or improve, we will update this. Stella also saw an outside farm cat and charged the cat and chased it. So a home with no cats is also needed. Since Stella came to us after being a stray, we are going to require a fenced in yard to adopt her.

10/26/20 UPDATE: Stella would really like to find her forever home where she can hang around with her own human/family all the time. She is kennel trained as she loves getting little snack rewards, and housebroken. She will go outside on her own now, but won't stay out long if I'm not standing at the door. At night she will happily sleep in her kennel all night, but if allowed she loves to snuggle with me in the "big bed". She LOVES toys. She is a strong chewer and will destroy anything with fluff, so does best with tough toys and bones. She does not chew on anything she is not supposed to though. Stella is such a sweet fun dog. When I come home from work she is so happy to see me, and loves to do zoomies around my fenced in yard (with a toy in her mouth), and me watching. She likes to lay in my lap on the couch, or snuggle next to me with her head buried. Although she has a sleek muscular body and likes to act like a tough girl, deep down she really is a big baby and a fun-loving pooch. She is not a fan of other dogs at all so she needs to be the center of someone's world and she will pay you back with the best snuggles ever. She should also have a fenced in yard in case another dog would walk nearby.

4/13/21 UPDATE: Stella was adopted for 4 months. She was a great dog for them but kept escaping their fence so instead of fixing their fence so it was secure, they returned her. Stella spent a month in boarding at our vet, and today found a foster home with no other pets and no young children. She did really great on her first day. So friendly and wanted to be near you at all times. Stella is a great dog. Would love for her to find her forever home so she can bond with forever family.

4/20/21 UPDATE: From her new foster dad, "Stella loves playing ball outside. She likes her toys and a blanket I got her. Enjoys going for walks. She is eating well. She is really intelligent. Always by my side. She is excited and happy to see me when I come home from work. She would be a true best friend to someone. Stella is such a great dog."

Will someone please adopt Stella and give her a forever home? $125.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
