SQUIRT's Story
Squirt came to us from HSOY (Yuma) and settled in pretty easily to his foster home. He is friendly with new people he meets and does well with children, as long as they are respectful of his personal space and do not "force" themselves upon him. In the past, he has not liked being picked up. We believe that was due to a sore back. Squirt has had some acupuncture and chiropractic care which appears to have relieved the pain. He can now be picked up without incident as long as he is aware of your intention. Squirt likes other dogs but does not play, he just likes their companionship. He would be fine as an only dog also. Human affection is something that Squirt will search out when he wants some. He'll often walk up to you as you're sitting and stand up against you for some petting and loving but he is not one to lay on the couch or bed next to you. He doesn't like to be up on furniture. Squirt does walk nicely on a leash, and does fine in a crate for short periods. Squirt is housebroken in foster (with dog door) but will of course need to learn a new routine in his forever home. He is not destructive and can be left out without concerns about things getting chewed up. We estimate that Squirt is around 9 years old and about 15 lbs.

Squirt received a dental while in rescue when he was neutered. He was tested for Valley Fever after he developed a slight limp and it came back as positive. He was put on meds for that. After about a month, we tested him again with a different test that would provide more detail. This more accurate test came back negative. The first test was most likely a false positive, which we have learned is not that uncommon. He is off the meds and has shown no signs of Valley Fever since.
