SQUIRT*'s Story
Meet Squirt, our not so little pitbull mix. Squirt came to the Shelter after a good Samaritan found him as a scared stray and brought him to the Shelter for safety. Squirt is a shy guy who found the transition to the Shelter a bit unnerving but, with time and patience, is gaining confidence with the new environment and people. He now walks on leash to go out and snuggle with people and play with dog friends he has made at the Shelter. Squirt has a little softly wagging tail when meeting new people and likes to rest his head on people’s laps when comfortable to solicit attention. He does seem to perk up in the company of other dogs and enjoys romping around the yard with dogs he has met at the Shelter. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Squirt with cats or children. Adopters should be patient in the transition as Squirt acclimates to the new people and environment of his adoptive home. Squirt's adoption fee has been sponsored by a good samaritan! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
