(See what we did there?)

Meet Sprinkles Donut, an approx. 5-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix, weighing 11 pounds (as of 7/2/26). The DONUT litter are a-dough-rable Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix pups aka Shorkies who were rescued from a hoarder situation in western Massachusetts.

Quick update: Sprinkles continues to be doing great. He is really the best and the closest I'm coming to being a foster fail. He does great in the car, still no "accidents" in the house. Sleeping through the night fine in a crate in our room. Likes to be either next to us on a couch or at our feet. Playing with toys now which is cute.

Last Friday, the police in West Springfield called to say that they had 12 dogs in an abandoned home with nobody to take care of them and they were fearful that without rescue, they might starve to death in the house. Of course, Great Dog Rescue jumped into action and took every single dog to safety at our isolation center in Woburn, Mass. These pups saw our vet and received vaccinations and other medical attention. When we started reaching out for help, Petco stepped up and gave every single one of the Donuts a full grooming! For free! Thank you again to the gang at Petco for being so a-glaze-ing!

Sweet Sprinkles! Look at his adorable face! There's nothing more festive than sprinkles on your donut. In fact, Sprinkles was voted Mr. Congeniality by our volunteers and Kennel staff. He's a smiley little guy who's just excited to be with you! Crates do make him nervous, though, so he'll need some time to adjust. Perhaps you should just give him piggy back rides from now on? He'll tip in rainbow sprinkles!

His foster shares: "Sprinkles is doing fantastic. He is a very sweet dog and so far, is the easiest foster at the start. Getting along great with our resident Cavapoo, sleeping through the night in a crate in my daughter's room and eats like it may be his last meal. He does gobble up his food quickly, so I'm guessing he learned to eat quickly before others got whatever was given. He wants to be near a human or our dog at all times. I don't want to claim he is housetrained, but he hasn't gone to the bathroom in our house yet. He seems to know when we bring him out that it is time to go to the bathroom. However, I'm not counting any chickens yet on that front!

He has some good "ups" with his jumping ability, so he has no problem hopping up on the couch to sit with us. Subsequently, we also have to watch to not leave any food out on the kitchen table as he can easily jump from our chairs up onto the table. My husband took him for a short walk yesterday and he seemed to know how to walk on a leash. He hasn't been a barker yet, but I suppose it is early in the process. He doesn't seem to have any desire to run away from us. Follows us in and out of the back yard easily. We have a fenced in yard, so he has enjoyed exploring it."

The Donuts love and adore people, get along with other dogs, and have lived happily with cats in the past. We cannot promise that any of them are housebroken, but they hope to master all training so they can be your B.D.F: Best Donut Friend! Despite coming out of some of the most horrific conditions we have ever seen, all 12 of these dogs are absolute sweethearts! They just want to be loved, pet and with their people! Now it's your turn to ensure that they have the good life they deserve! Make life sweeter (and punnier) with a donut today!

**These gorgeous dogs have a higher adoption fee than listed on our website. This is not just because they are incredibly awesome and 100% worth it! The adoption fee helps the rescue recoup the extreme medical expenses of saving them from a hoarder situation.**

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

To adopt or learn more about Sprinkles Donut, you must fill out an adoption application. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
