Spirit's Story

Meet Miss Spirit!

Your eyes aren't deceiving you—this lovely girl is not a Collie, but a beautiful Blue Merle Sheltie. Spirit came into FCR as an owner relinquishment alongside her friend Suede, who has already found his forever home. Spirit is a sweet, spunky little lady with plenty of personality. At 11 years young, she doesn't let her age slow her down—she still enjoys playtime with her foster siblings and has a fun, lively spirit. That said, she's always happy to pause the action if there's a chance for some good old-fashioned butt scratches from her favorite humans.

Spirit and Suede were surrendered through no fault of their own after their mom passed away and their dad could no longer care for them due to medical issues. Despite these big life changes, Spirit has shown herself to be resilient and adaptable. She currently lives in a foster home with four other Shelties ranging from 1 to 14 years old. While she needed a few days to settle in, she has since blossomed—getting along well with everyone and enjoying her new routine. Spirit loves spending time outdoors. You'll often find her happily patrolling the yard—whether she's “supervising” the younger Shelties or running the fence line to chat with the neighbor dogs. She tends to prefer dogs her own size or smaller. Due to some vision loss, larger dogs can make her a bit uneasy.

Because of her limited eyesight, Spirit feels most comfortable when she's able to approach people and other dogs on her own terms. Being approached too quickly can startle her, and while she is not at all aggressive, she may let out a little squeal in surprise. It's simply her way of saying, “Hey, give me a second!” Aside from her vision changes, Spirit is healthy and doing very well.

Now, Spirit is ready to find a loving, understanding forever home where she can continue to shine at her own pace and live out her golden years.
