Spike is a 1-year old Miniature Schnauzer who currently weighs 14 lbs.

Spike is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccines and on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

Spike was abandoned by his owner in South Carolina in horrific shape. He was extremely thin, his coat was matted, nail over-grown, and to top it off, someone threw scalding hot water on him cause him to have a burn scar on his back.
Spike was very fearful and didn't trust anyone. But how could you blame him for what he went through.
A good Samaritan took Spike in and offered him refuge while she was looking for rescue for him.
We took this poor little needful soul in and brought him to Maryland so he now can find his loving forever home he so much deserves.

Spike got a nice grooming and now you can see just what a beautiful soul he is. He was neutered at the same time his hernia was repaired. He is now healed up and ready to go HOME!

A perfect home for Spike is with adults and with no children since he can be a bit skittish around them.
Spike seems to prefer women. He is intimidated by men and will growl and possibly bite if he feels threatened. We think he would do best in a home with a women only who enjoys the companionship of a little fella like Spike.

Because of his past, we will be only place Spike in a home with adults (preferable a woman) who are experienced with fearful dogs who tend to protect themselves until they feel safe and part of his humans.
He should not be startled while sleeping or resting. And caution should be used when picked up. If mishandled abruptly by petting him unexpectedly or picked up, Spike may snap or nip to let you know he is not comfortable with that. Best is to allow Spike to come around on his own terms once he feels safe and comfortable around his new humans and surroundings.
It may take Spike a little bit time to warm up to new people but once he does, and he knows he is safe and no one will hurt him, he will be just fine and actually will beg to be petted and get some belly rubs, especially by a woman.
Spike will need to decompress using the "2-week shutdown for dogs".

Spike has gotten along with other dogs at his foster home and has been exposed to cats without any issues.

Spike is crate-trained but seems to be ok roaming the home. He appears to be house-trained now and no longer marks after his neuter.

Spike is really a sweet little love bug and very playful and affectionate once he comes out of his shell and he trusts you.
He just requires time and patience to show him that he will never be hurt or mistreated again.

If interested in our little Spike, please send an email to NeedfulSoulsDogRescue@gmail.com and request an application.

****Please note, no phone calls please. We only adopt to a 2-hour radius from Baltimore. Spike will do better in the suburbs with a fenced in yard and nice quiet neighborhood for his walks.****
