Spencer's Story

Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. The Meximutt Project, a BAPBR initiative, tackles this crisis at the source—through comprehensive spay/neuter programs and by connecting rescued dogs with loving Oregon families.

Since 2019: 400+ dogs adopted, 3,200+ spayed/neutered.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Yes

• GOOD WITH CATS? No, he chases them

• GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.

• HOUSEBROKEN? No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.

• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved

**Meet SPENCER**

Spencer was discovered wandering the streets, chasing after a pack of dogs that wanted nothing to do with him. He was skinny, exhausted, and his skin was in rough shape—but still, he kept following, hoping to belong somewhere. That image of him trailing behind dogs who wouldn't accept him tells you everything about Spencer's heart: he just wants to be part of a pack.

*Finding Himself Again*

Today, Spencer is a different dog. His scruffy cream-colored coat has healed beautifully, he's at a healthy weight, and there's a new confidence in those big, soulful brown eyes. "He loves nothing more than sunbathing and playing with the other dogs," his foster shares. "You can tell he finally feels safe."

At about a year and a half old, he's still young and playful, but with a calm, easy-going nature that makes him a joy to be around.

*The Real Spencer*

Spencer is gentle and sweet with people, though he'll take his time warming up to you—and that's okay. He's not the type to demand attention or follow you from room to room. Instead, he's content doing his own thing, especially if there's a canine buddy nearby. He thrives in the company of other dogs, quickly making friends wherever he goes. Cats, however, aren't his thing; he tends to chase them.

He's currently learning house training and doing well. Whether he knows how to walk on a leash or ride in a car is still a mystery waiting to be solved by his forever family.

And a bonus for allergy-conscious families: Spencer doesn't shed!

*Could You Be His Person?*

Spencer would do best in a patient home, ideally with another dog to keep him company. He's not asking for much—just a warm spot in the sun, a friend to play with, and people who'll give him the time he needs to show his affection in his own quiet way.

After being rejected by so many, this scruffy little gentleman is ready to finally find his pack. Could that be you?

***************************************

READY TO APPLY?
