Sparkler does have some resource guarding issues with humans and other dogs. Please visit the following link for more information and training: https://grishastewart.com/resource-guarding/. Our volunteers are working with her, and the link provides tips and helps with training so her adopter can continue it.

Foster Home Feedback

1/4/24 Volunteer Feedback: Sparkler just completed a dog class that works on walking and behavior around other dogs! She did great and graduated this past week! She is ready for a home that will make her training "muscle memory". Take a look at her photos to see how proud she is with her certificate!

1/24/2024 Volunteer Feedback: I have the pleasure of helping this sweetheart out in the rescue. I take her once a week to training classes along with taking her to dog friendly stores. She has been doing great! Very treat motivated and well behaved walking out and about. She can be a bit excited when she first sees you but listens when you need her to calm down. She rides great in the car and loves to sniff out the window. Sparkler is always on the move or will be laying down chewing on a bone next to you! She knows a lot of training commands and is a very smart dog. She would do great in any home that has some patience in adjusting out of shelter life.

12/13/23 Volunteer Feedback: Hi! My name is Sparkler. Some current facts you should know about me are: I'm very smart. I pick things up really quickly, so as people work with me on training they will find I'm easy to please and super treat motivated. I know sit, shake, touch, eye contact, and down. I learn everything the building volunteers throw at me.

I am definitely an active lady who likes to stay busy. Walks make me happy and the building volunteers do a lot of enrichment with me to help ease my mind. I love snuffle mats and puzzle toys.

I keep my kennel clean and people say I am a joy to be around. I also love a good toy to chew on.

Pick me, I won't disappoint you!

9/6/23 Foster Feedback: Sparkler is doing GREAT! She is now potty-trained, and knows how to utilize a bell to let you know when she needs to go outside. We have also have her kennel trained with a few tasty bribes, and very little singing. We have found that she likes her kennel to be in our bedroom at night - goes right in and settles in quickly. We've finally been able to go on some walks, and while the first five minutes are VERY exciting, she calms down pretty quickly and walks with a loose leash!

Sparkler is such a good dog. She has a lot of puppy energy still, and would probably love a playmate. Like to run? She'd probably love to run with you!

Again, she is VERY treat motivated (we found that Pupperoni is her bribe of choice). She will be very easy to work with and train. She's got her basics down, but could always use refinement or additional training!

She is so sweet and goofy. She loves to snuggle and snores very loud when she's comfy. She loves toys, and playing nonstop! Please consider this pocket pup as a companion. She is so wonderful.

7/10/23 Foster Feedback: Meet Sparkler!

After a very scary bout with Parvo, this firecracker is healthy and ready for her forever home!

She is currently 35lbs at 6 months old. She's got some awkward, lanky legs, so she may get bigger yet. She can sit, lay down, shake, and drop it. We are working on stay and kenneling. She does go in the kennel with some coaxing and treat bribes and then will sing like a Tuesday night karaoke singer... She does calm down though, pretty quickly. We are just refining some potty training. She's almost there!

Sparkler can be very sweet, but is mostly in her puppy phase of needing to play, run, tug, and not knowing how to express her energy. Typical puppy behavior, but she is very treat motivated, and easily trainable!

We haven't been able to walk her, due to her parvo, but I have no doubt she will learn quickly!
Right now, she is learning how to "dog" from three chihuahuas. So, she may be awkward and aloof at first. She can be shy/nervous of loud or new sounds. She has a lot of energy and is ready to become your running partner!

Sparkler is a very typical lab puppy/toddler. With some solid training and a schedule, she is going to be an amazing companion! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org
