Sophia's Story

*****INTRODUCING SOPHIA****** MORE INFO SOON!!!
When we first saw the little dog we later named Sophia, we knew we had to step in. She had been found as a stray, and it was hard to tell what she even was under all the matted fur. We could see she was some kind of poodle mix.
Our team dropped everything, and with the help of a caring local groomer, we got to work. Years of thick, painful, dirty matting covered her body. Through it all, Sophia was sweet and gentle from the very first moment. Her tail never stopped wagging, and she seemed to hug everyone she met, as if she knew she was finally safe. It took three of us working side by side, two clippers running at the same time, for four hours to free her from all that matting. Underneath it all, a beautiful doodle emerged, most likely an Aussiedoodle. Watching her feet touch the ground without painful mats for the first time was truly amazing. She walked lighter, happier, as if she finally understood that the worst was behind her.
Sophia is one of four dogs we recently pulled in one day from a local shelter. For a small rescue like ours, this is a huge undertaking financially, but we could not turn our backs on them. Sophia and another dog, Chloe, were recently rescued locally after they were found running along the road. Sophia was in worse condition when she arrived; it took our team about four hours to remove the severe matting from her coat. Based on her condition, it appears she may have been living primarily outdoors.

Despite her difficult past, Sophia is exceptionally sweet and friendly with everyone she meets, as well as with all of the dogs she has encountered. Everyone who meets her comments on how wonderful she is. She is very eager to please, which makes us optimistic about her future in a stable, loving home. She hugs everyone lol

At this time, Sophia does not seem to have any leash manners and will need support with housebreaking. Realistically, helping her adjust will be a bit like starting with a puppy: she will need patience, consistency, and training as she learns appropriate indoor behavior and how to walk nicely on a leash. Given her eagerness to please, we believe she will make good progress with committed guidance.

Currently, Sophia (and Chloe) are staying at a boarding kennel and doggie daycare in Galloway, NJ. She is fully vetted and will be scheduled to be spayed . Her veterinary care includes:

Rabies vaccine

Distemper vaccine

Bordetella/parainfluenza vaccine

Heartworm test

Flea and tick preventative

She will also be microchipped at the time of her spay as part of our standard adoption preparation.
