She is affectionate with those she knows, adapts well to structure and routine, and is well-mannered in new situations, such as dog parks and the groomer. Sophia enjoys regular exercise, responds well to consistent guidance, and is patient and gentle with other dogs.

She is still learning to manage certain sights and sounds, and will benefit from ongoing positive-reinforcement training and a confident, patient handler. Sophia needs regular outlets for her energy, guidance around barking in stimulating environments, and time to settle into a new home. She will do best with adopters who can provide her with structure, mental stimulation, and understanding as she builds confidence.

Energy Level:
Sophia is an active young dog who thrives on regular exercise and outdoor time. She enjoys daily walks and, when given access to a play yard, loves running, playing ball, and exploring for extended periods. Indoors, she keeps herself busy with chewable toys and enjoys simple interactive play with other dogs. Sophia will do best in an active home that can provide consistent exercise and opportunities for play and movement.

Behavior Highlights

Indoors
• Does not react to doorbells or visitors
• May bark briefly at outside noises through windows, but stops quickly with redirection
• Generally settles well with guidance

Outdoors
• On walks: notices people, animals, and vehicles but barks far less than before
• Little reaction to cars during walks; motorcycles may still trigger barking
• In fenced, off-leash areas (dog parks, dog cafés): may bark and follow people, animals, or vehicles passing nearby
• Barking may continue until the stimulus is gone
• Redirection is difficult once barking starts, though it usually decreases with time

With Other Dogs

Sophia is social and playful with dogs.
• Enjoys playing with other dogs, especially in open spaces
• When she has a favorite toy, she may give a brief, mild growl if another dog shows interest, but this does not escalate
• If the toy is taken, she does not attempt to reclaim it
• No food aggression; eats calmly around other dogs and responds well to redirection
• Waits her turn during group treat time
• Tolerant of dogs entering her space and often chooses to sit calmly or move away
• Occasional mild growling may occur when dogs crowd people for attention, but it is non-escalating and manageable

With Cats

Sophia’s response depends on the cat.
• Can coexist calmly with confident, relaxed cats
• May growl or attempt to chase cats that appear fearful or defensive
• A home with cats would require slow introductions, supervision, and management

With People & Children
• May bark at unfamiliar people, especially in enclosed or fenced spaces
• More reactive when new people attempt to enter her space
• On walks, tends to bark more at men than women
• Limited experience with children
• Best suited for a home with older, dog-savvy children who respect boundaries

Grooming & Handling

Sophia does very well at the groomer.
• No biting, barking, or aggressive behavior during grooming
• Groomer noted improved comfort with handling over time
• Allows full body handling calmly
• Skin and coat condition are excellent

The sound of the dryer is still a bit scary for her, so gradual, positive desensitization is recommended.

Potty Training

Sophia is familiar with both indoor potty pads and outdoor pottying.
She is not yet 100% reliably outdoor potty trained, and adopters should expect to continue structured potty training as she adjusts to a new home and routine.

Ideal Home for Sophia

Sophia would do best in a home that offers:
• An active lifestyle with regular exercise
• Ongoing training and positive reinforcement
• A calm, confident handler who can provide structure
• Patience during her adjustment period
• Experience with young or energetic dogs (a plus, but not required)

Important Note from the Rescue

All information in this profile is based on observations and reports from Sophia’s foster family in her current environment. Every dog needs time to adjust in a new home, and behaviors may change as Sophia settles into a new routine and space. We ask adopters to approach this transition with patience, understanding, and realistic expectations.

Follow Our Rescue on Instagram: @neveralonerescue
