Hi, my name is Sonya! Please read on, because I have quite the story.

I have a pretty sad story. I am from a small city in Ukraine which is completely overrun with street dogs. Maybe for that reason, dogs are not respected very much there. Unbelievably, I was found at a gas station pregnant and with a bullet in my spine. I was very lucky that animal rescuers found me. The puppies did not survive but I was lucky to be ok, except now my legs are partially paralyzed. It also was determined that the injury is inoperable, so I still have the bullet.
I am not being listed as special needs though because I have full control of my bowels and can still walk and run.

In Ukraine it is very difficult to find homes for dogs with any imperfections. Even though I am a pure breed Chihuahua, for over a year I could not find my home. Then, one day, I found out that I got into an American program that sends some lucky dogs to America, if they cannot be adopted in Ukraine.

So I arrived to San Francisco in mid-April and am now living with a foster family. So, my foster Mom found out that I am scared of men. I do not like it when her husband is around. I would do best in a home with a single female. I can become possessive, so I need an experienced owner or someone with a strong personality who can establish themselves as my leader.

Even though I am a small little girl, I like to guard the house. So I will let you know if someone is outside. I am only 12 lbs and like to be carried around and with my primary owner I am very loving, For these reasons, I would be an excellent emotional support animal. If you wanted to travel with me, I can fit under the seat of an airplane, that is how I got here!

I am toilet-trained and leash-trained, and do well with other cats and dogs. I am not recommended for a house with children, as I can nip if someone approaches me suddenly.
