Solomon's Story
Solomon is a 2 year old, HANDSOME male, Great Pyrenees weighing about 90(ish) lbs. He was found as a stray, hung out at a shelter, and he is now in a GRRAND foster home waiting for his forever family. Here is what they tell us:

"Meet Solomon, a young male Pyrenees with badger markings, playful as a puppy and eager to please. This happy dog was a stray in need of vetting and a good bath. He got a full work up at the vet; it was likely his first visit considering his poor condition, visible fleas and ticks and dirty, matted coat. He was cooperative with his nail trim and loves attention. “Solly” tested positive for Lyme disease and completed a 30-day course of treatment. He was neutered, is house broken and is now reviewing applications for adoption now. He's got a few non-negotiable items on his wish list for a new family:
Solly requires a 6' tall secure fence to keep him contained when he's tempted to chase deer or coyotes. He may always need adult supervision while out in the yard because he's capable of going over even a tall fence if his instincts kick in. Solly loves his stuffy toy Grumpy Gnome and will carry it with him when he goes outside or takes a nap. (So cute!!) He absolutely loves to be brushed and rolls over for belly rubs. Solomon is a low key, sweet natured calm boy and sits easily for you to put on his collar and leash. He will chill out on a cool tile floor or curl up on the couch if given permission. Solly is the most patient dog his foster has ever seen; while you prep his twice a day meal, he will walk into his “room” or kennel space, sit and watch for his dinner bowl to arrive.
Solly is learning leash manners quickly and will do best with a regular exercise routine, daily consistency to reinforce his new skills and your patience to for him to become his best self. Solomon is easily distracted by squirrels and birds on his walks, so his foster always carries high value treats to keep him focused on her. He is learning “LEAVE IT” and “WITH ME” to continue on with the walk. Solly will take a moment to make up his mind thay he's ok with not chasing critters. It's important to redirect him when this happens.
Solomon has not been tested with cats but has fully integrated with his foster's 3 dogs indoors and out after careful introductions one on one after several weeks. One of her dogs is a Pyrenees, also, and they can be a little slow to warm up to a new dog in the house, so she was cautious not to overwhelm her pack.
Solomon is a handsome, very lovable Pyrenees with a gentle disposition, is affectionate, playful, smart and will do what you ask of him. (He may take a minute to make up his mind, cause that is what The Pyr's do!!) We know he will soon find a good fit in a home that knows this breed's good nature, but understands he'll be barking at the delivery people on your doorstep. He is a guardian at heart, may bark at new people until he understands they are friends and may have a treat for him! Solomon just wants to be loved and understood, and is deserving of a safe and loving home to play and live his best life."

Solomon will need a home with a secure fenced in yard, as the Great Pyr's love to roam and patrol, and they do this best, in a safe and secure space. Great Pyreneese and Goldens are so much alike, yet have different qualities, and if unfamiliar with the breed, you may want to do some research on them before applying.

We will update as we learn more, but if you want to meet this guy, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org
