Smooth's Story

New to DRM, stay tuned for more info!!New to Doberman Rescue Minnesota.<br/><br/>Here is an update on (Smooth)Dash's (as his foster is calling him)progress in his foster home:<br/><br/>Routine & Diet<br/><br/>Dash is doing great with his routine. He is completely house-trained with no accidents in the home, and he will whine at the door when he needs to go outside. He is currently fed three times a day, receiving 1 cup of dry food and 1/2 cup of Freshpet at each meal.<br/><br/>Temperament & Socialization<br/><br/>- Kids & Adults: He is good with kids and all people. He does bark when new people come around, but he quickly adjusts and is ready to play.<br/><br/>- Other Dogs: He is good with other dogs. He can be a little timid at first and may growl, but within seconds he is ready to play. We have other dogs in the home, and he plays most of the day either with them or with a toy.<br/><br/>- Cats: We have a cat in the house, and Dash has no interest in chasing it—he just wants to smell it. He also has not chased squirrels, rabbits, or birds in the yard.<br/><br/>Behavior & Training<br/><br/>- Puppy Habits: Since he is currently teething, he likes to chew and needs a little supervision. However, he redirects easily to one of his many toys whenever he starts nibbling on something he shouldn't.<br/><br/>- Areas of Improvement: We are currently working on him being able to share toys, as he currently likes to hide with them and not share. Additionally, he is not always sure what people are going to do when they reach for him, so he will typically just lay down.<br/><br/>- Leash & Commands: We are working on leash walking and basic commands. He has already learned to sit before he gets a treat and his meals. He currently has a fenced backyard, but he is still too young to have learned recall. We currently have a trainer working with him.<br/><br/>Crate & Car<br/><br/>- Crate Training: He has no problem being kenneled. We don't typically kennel him at night, but we often find him sleeping in his kennel in the morning. We do kennel him when we leave for longer periods, and he does just fine without whining.<br/><br/>- Car Rides: Dash does fine in the car. We are taking him on at least a few car rides each week so he can continue to get used to it.<br/><br/>Overall, he's still a puppy with a lot to learn, but when he gets tired, he's happy to lay down on his bed and take a good nap.<br/><br/>This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog.<br/><br/>Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. http://dobermanrescueminnesota.com/adoption-steps/<br/><br/>Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home.
