Smokie's Story
I'd like to introduce myself! I'm Smokie, and I'm a gorgeous brindle boy, as you may have noticed from my photos. I am four years old, and I am a retired field trial racer, also known as a lurcher, or a greyhound-mix.

I need an adopter willing to be patient while I learn to trust them and their mannerisms so I can add them to my list of "safe" friends. Then, I will be so affectionate and give you lots of love! My friends say that once they got to know me, they found me to be a playful, happy-go-lucky kind of hound. One of them described me as an "all-around great dog"!

I am hopeful I'll find my forever-family soon! I love to explore, though I am good on a leash, too. I am not cat-tolerant, but I do get along with other big dogs! Especially other greyhounds. (I am not a huge fan of more rough-playing dogs like pitbulls or boxers, though.) I am 70 pounds, and up to date on all my vetting. I am also housetrained, although it has been a while since I have a slept in a house, rather than a kennel. That's another thing I'm looking forward to once I am adopted!

What I really don't care for are children - of any age. They are just too unpredictable and loud for me, to be honest. I must go to a home with only adults, and if children will visit, I will need my own quiet, secure room to spend time in until they go home. But I will be a great companion for the adults!

If you have read my quirks and think you may be a good fit for me, please reach out to Prison Greyhounds and apply! I can't wait to meet my perfect family.

* * * * *

Adopters must meet the following requirements:
- Live in Indiana (Western Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, or Nashville, TN may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit)
- Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old
- Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc. - sorry!)
- Fenced yard (no invisible fences)
- Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard

We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend!
