Smokey's Story

Meet Smokey: A Special Rescue Yorkie Looking for His Forever Home

Smokey’s Journey from the Streets of Colorado Springs, CO., to Sunshine in Your Life

Introducing Smokey

Allow me to introduce you to Smokey, a remarkable little dog with a big heart and boundless optimism. Smokey’s story began when he was found wandering the streets—emaciated and alone—before being taken in by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Thankfully, Rocky Mountain Yorkie Rescue stepped in to offer him a fresh start and the loving care he deserves.

Smokey’s Personality and Health

Despite his estimated age of 12, Smokey bursts with energy and behaves much younger—often acting like a playful puppy. At just six pounds, he’s a bundle of happiness whose tail wags at lightning speed, earning him the affectionate nickname “Sunshine.” Smokey is gentle, loving, and thrives on human affection. He absolutely adores being held and cuddled, and when you try to put him down, he’ll cling to you like a cat, hoping for just a little more snuggling time.
Since joining his foster home, Smokey has received a dental cleaning, is neutered, and is up to date on all his vaccinations. He’s in overall good health and is crate-trained, although he much prefers being close to his person. His crate remains open so he can come and go as he pleases.

Training and Daily Life

While Smokey isn’t fully potty trained yet, his foster mom is diligently working with him, and he’s making progress. He’s comfortable wearing a bellyband indoors to prevent accidents and doesn’t mind at all. As his future family, you’ll need to continue guiding him as he learns the routines of your home.
Smokey is happiest when he’s with his human. He loves going for walks in his harness, exploring the world with curiosity and joy. His gentle spirit and loving nature make him a truly special companion.

The Ideal Home for Smokey

Smokey is searching for a forever home that can provide the care and attention he deserves. The ideal environment for Smokey includes:
• A stay-at-home adult who can spend quality time with him
• A secure backyard for safe outdoor enjoyment (he must never be left unattended outside)
• A home without children under the age of 10

Ready to Welcome Smokey?

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and spirited companion, Smokey might just be the perfect addition to your family. He’s more than just a rescue—he’s a ray of sunshine waiting to brighten your days. Open your heart and home to Smokey and experience the unconditional love only a special dog like him can give.
