Looking for an old southern gentleman? Meet Smokey! Smokey is a 13 year old, 77lb bluetick coonhound mix. Pre-rescue, he spent his life as an outdoor dog roaming his family's land in Tennessee. When Smokey's family could no longer care for him, they brought him to an animal hospital to be euthanized, assuming that no one would want to take in a dog as old as him. However, the hospital thought differently and pulled him into rescue! Smokey's ideal family is a patient one, someone willing to put down rugs so he won't have trouble standing up on slippery hardwood floors or tile. They are easy-going, quiet, and while Smokey doesn't need company 24/7, are able to be home to let him use the bathroom every 6 hours or so (despite being an outdoor dog, he is house trained!). He would like a house with a yard so he can enjoy the great outdoors, though it is not a strong requirement so long as his new family helps him to do the thing he loves the most in the form of long walks in nature-filled places. He would also love an adopter who can help him gain some weight; he has turned his foster mom into a dog-food chef, enjoying warm broth and rice in his kibble as well as the occasional turkey sandwich (his order is honey wheat bread and turkey only, please). Smokey has been slow to warm up; that being said, his foster mom saw his tail wag in his sleep once, so she knows it works! With the patience to gain Smokey's trust, anyone could fall in love with this guy and his big, cow-like eyes. If you think that you could help Smokey live the rest of his life in relaxing retirement, apply to adopt him today!
His adoption fee is $325. He is being fostered in Manhattan
