Slade's Story

Current Location: Baltimore, MD

Meet Slade - a happy, easygoing boy who has quickly settled into foster care. He has a sweet, laid-back personality and is the kind of dog who wants to be part of whatever you're doing.

Slade walks nicely on leash, isn't reactive to people or other dogs, and loves taking his time on a good sniffy adventure. He's friendly with strangers both inside his home and while he's out exploring. He also did great meeting lots of children at an adoption event and happily soaked up their attention.

Slade has a low-to-medium energy level and is perfectly happy spending much of the day relaxing at home. He enjoys a couple walks each day, but he's more of a leisurely stroller than a power walker - he loves taking his time to sniff along the way. Around the house, he keeps everyone smiling with his goofy habit of rolling onto his back and wiggling around whenever the mood strikes. He's also earned the title of King of the Sploot!

He has been a quiet, well-mannered houseguest. He is house-trained and doesn't require constant monitoring by his humans when hanging out at home. He gets along well with the resident dog and has an easygoing, respectful approach to canine friends. Slade also doesn't jump on his humans, which is especially nice given his larger size.

Slade will be your shadow. This could look like hanging out in the kitchen while you cook, snuggling beside you while watching tv, or even quietly laying on the bathmat while you shower. Despite this, he does great with free rein of the house when home alone. He's happy to settle in on the couch and relax while his foster family is away and successfully stays home alone for the full workday. Crates and confinement to a separate room are stressful for Slade, so he does best when given the freedom to choose where he settles.

This handsome guy already knows "sit" and "down." He also does wonderfully for baths, doesn't mind potty breaks in the rain, and is comfortable with having his feet touched, which should make nail trims a breeze! He's also unfazed by everyday noises like the vacuum and even louder sounds like fireworks.

If you're looking for a friendly, relaxed companion who enjoys walks, cozy naps, and making you laugh with his silly personality, Slade might just be the perfect addition to your family.

Operation Paws for Homes's Adoption Policy
Our organization provides pet adoption services to families located in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, Southern Pennsylvania and neighboring states. We believe in responsible adoptions and strive to work with each adopter to find a good match for their home and lifestyle. Our adoption process includes completion of an application, a vet check, an interview, and a personal “meet and greet” where the family can meet and interact with their potential new four-legged family member. Throughout this process, we work to ensure each family and dog are the right fit for each other. We are fortunate to have some wonderful and active volunteers who help OPH find forever homes for over 1,000 dogs and cats a year. The key to that statement is - volunteer! Please remember that our organization is driven by caring individuals who give their personal time to help rescue these animals and provide them with the opportunity to find an amazing future! In addition to adoptions, volunteers carry out education and outreach events throughout the area, and conduct donation drives for our partner shelters in the south. Our goal is to offer a second chance to dogs and cats abandoned in shelters and out of time. Sadly, without our help, some of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - sometimes within days of arriving at the shelter. Each year we rescue hundreds of wonderful dogs and cats. We work hard to unite them with forever families who will give them the life and love they deserve. These animals are saved only because of the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors, and volunteers.
