Meet Siri

Siri is a female, 1 year old old Labrador Retriever/cattle dog mix who weighs around 985lbs. She’s a higher energy dog who has a lot of puppy still left in her, she would love to be your companion and go on walks. She’s crate and kennel trained, good on and off leash, and loves to sniff and explore and play with her toys. Siri is a special case and has had ACL surgery on both her knees, she would do best in a home with owners who take her on regular leisurely walks instead of intense hikes, and willing to do some physical therapy if necessary. She is not great with other dogs (yet); this may improve as we start integrating her back into the program since she's been recently cleared by the vet to be taken off restricted movement. We are slowly trying to help her make new doggy friends but she’s not quite there yet. You can easily make friends with Siri by offering her some treats, but coming on too strong too quick can be a little scary for her. She is a lover girl who adjusted to Fire Department life very quickly and she likes cuddles, pets, and belly rubs. She can entertain herself for quite a while with a bucket of toys! Siri is a little mouthy (maybe due to the cattle dog in her) so a home with older kids would be best.

To get more information on a Pups On Parole dog, please contact the Pups on Parole Coordinator of the Lassen Humane Society at 831-809-5034 or e-mail lassenhumanesociety@yahoo.com. The Pups On Parole Program started in June of 2007 to help give homeless dogs a second chance at finding an adoptive family. All dogs in the program spent time in our local county shelter, surrendered by their owners or picked up as strays and waiting for their owners to redeem them or to be adopted by new families. The selected dogs are brought current on vaccinations (rabies, kennel cough, distemper/parvo, 1st flu), spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and heart worm tested. They then are taken to the California Correctional Center Firehouse where they are assigned to a handler/ inmate fire fighter. These handlers groom and work with each dog and give them the extra time and attention they need to become wonderful family companions. Most pups are house trained and know basic obedience commands. As of July 2023, 696 dogs have been adopted through this program. To meet any of the Pups On Parole dogs, arrangements must be made in advance.
