Simba 's Story

Update 3/26

We have to completely rewrite Simba’s bio now that he’s come out of his shell! He’s no longer the world’s scardiest saddest little Eeyore man. He has stepped into his determined and fierce lion 🦁 era to match his name. His We have identified his 2 greatest motivators- food and squeaky toys! Not in that order, he will actually pick an exciting new squeaky ball over food. He is an independent player and can entertain himself throwing his toys around to himself and doesn’t really need you to keep him busy. Although you will have to deal with the non-stop squeaking in the background. And god help you if his ball rolls under something, he will do anything to get to it including trying to move the couch himself with his mightly little shoulder muscles.

He’s still definitely a weirdo, a protective and sometimes aloof little guy, not a big cuddler and would rather be out walking or playing. He looks 75% doxie with the wrong head attached- we were told doxie/pug/chihuahua. He’s about 20lbs and 6-7 years old but acts much younger, a fun funny little dog for someone who likes dogs with big personalities that don’t always fit into society. He’s selective about his doggie friends and prefers females, but definitely doesn’t like to share his food and toys so might be happier as an only pet. No children, they are too unpredictable and he needs consistency and space.

Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Simba 🦁 in Northern NJ.

Meet Simba, the saddest little doxie wannabe 😭

This poor guy was completely overwhelmed and terrified, being turned into a crowded shelter and then coming to us, and initially just sat in the corner for days hanging his head like Eeyore 🫏 🥺. It was heartbreaking.

He’s gotten over his initial shell shock and starting to show a little bit more of a personality, wagging his tail when he sees us and making friends with some of the calmer dogs. But despite his brave lion 🦁 name, he is still a super chicken 🐓 He has a lot of fear in him, cowers and shudders when touched like he is expecting the worst. We aren’t sure of much about his past life and we aren’t sure we want to know, but we are focused on moving forward and making him as happy as he can be.

He was said to be a doxie/chi/pug mix and we can definitely see all 3- the underbite, wrinkly face, and wider stance of a pug, the trembling neurotic chihuahua nature (and he will bark and snark and let strangers know to back off if they approach too fast) , and of course the long short legged perfect doxie body 🌭. He’s about 20lbs but on a diet to slim down a little (he definitely loves food and thats the way to his heart) has been neutered and updated on shots, and we think about 7 years old give or take. We would love to find this sad little man a nice quiet adult home and someone who will give him time and space to bond on his terms.

Email njwoof@cs.com to meet the world’s saddest short man in Northern NJ

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Second Chance Pet Adoption League's Adoption Policy
*Due to COVID-19 our adoption events are cancelled until further notice* Please email njwoof@cs.com and submit an application to set up an appointment to meet one of our adoptable dogs! Thank you for looking to open your home to a needy dog during this difficult time * Since most of our dogs live in foster homes instead of kennels, we get to know their personalities pretty well and have an idea of the type of home that would be ideal for them. We do our best to match you with a pet who will work out in your household, which is why we ask you to fill out the application below. It gives us information about your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a dog so we can find a match. Though we hope every adoption will be a success, we realize that sometimes once the pet gets into a home problems could arise and you may realize this is not the right dog for you. We always take our animals back at any time in their lifetime if they do not work out. We do not want them passed around or ending up in other shelters. If you are unable to keep your adopted pet, we require that they be returned to us so they can return to the foster home to which they have become accustomed. All of our dogs have been altered and given their vaccinations by our veterinarians as well as other necessary medical attention. Our adoption fees vary, generally up to $350 depending on the animal's breed, age, health, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend on them medically. All adoption fees are considered donations and go directly toward the medical care of our pets. Donations will be greatly appreciated as all our funding comes from our adoption fees, donations, and small fundraisers. All donations go directly toward medical care and supplies for our animals and are tax-deductible (we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit). We can always use volunteers to help with fostering mainly, and sometimes fundraising, supply collection and transport. Email us to volunteer njwoof@cs.com
