Meet Shyla - Sweet Girl-

Beautiful Shyla has such a sad story. Her owner lost his home and was distraught because he could not find a homeless shelter who would allow her to go with him. He had to beg the animal shelter to take her, even though they were overflowing with other dogs in need, they agreed to take her and contacted us. One of our volunteers picked her up immediately. This sweet girl was born in July in 2019 old and gets along with other dogs, cats and chidden. However, Shyla can be resource protective of toys and food. An adopter who has experience dealing with resource guarding would be best for Shyla. She is housebroken, and does not need to be crated. By the condition of her coat you can see she was well cared for and loved. She enjoys a good booty scratch and rides fine in vehicles too.. She loves going for walks, and walks well on a leash. She is very loving, gentle and calm.

We recommend obedience training for all newly adopted pyrs, to help you create a special bond with you and your new friend, and so you have a well behaved canine. Great Pyrenees are willing to learn, but are not as eager to comply with commands as much as other breeds. They are bred to be independent thinkers. Applicants must be over 25, own their own home and she would do best with an adult only home. She is fine around children, but all high value items will need to be put away and children should be supervised with her. Your resident pets must be up to date on vaccines, sterilized, you must have a good history of vet care for them, and you must have used heartworm preventative year round for your dogs.

Shyla will be placed as an inside pet with outside privileges. You MUST have a securely 4'+ fenced yard accessible from your home. Invisible fencing does not work with this breed and they will take the shock for the freedom. Great Pyrenees are bred to roam and will create their own territory if not secured, which can led to them being lost, hit by vehicles or shot by people who see them as a threat. The breed is not a good off leash dog, and cannot be trusted to not run away. A Great Pyrenees off leash is a " DisAPyr."
