Shyla is an outgoing and sweet, playful, beautiful shepherd mix puppy who can do no wrong, as she is here to please. Shyla LOVES engagement with other dogs, kids, and anyone wanting an activity companion. She is a fearless and happy 5/6 month old puppy. Smart and eager to learn tricks and obedience, she is on the path to being a great dog, without a doubt. Shyla loves her crate, will do anything for that treat, and has a high drive for praise. Warning: bringing this adorable puppy into your life could unleash a lot of charm and positive energy."<br/><br/>Level of dog ownership experience required:<br/>INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)<br/><br/>Energy level:<br/>High – High – tricks training is her idea of fun, and she loves the attention! Chew items and puzzle toys! Shyla will exhibit unwanted behavior when she's understimulated. Shyla needs a quick-paced exercise each morning, in addition to potty break strolls (10 minutes each). Training games (15 minutes at a time, then a chew) will significantly reduce the need to run outside if there isn't enough time in the day to walk for an hour. Shyla likes to socialize with other dogs and people! She loves to show off her tricks and is great with kids!<br/><br/>TOLERANCE TO CITY<br/>Versatile dog – Can be unfazed by the sights and sounds. Shyla is being trained to focus on her handler no matter the distraction. She is eager to please. A home in a calmer part of the city or the suburbs with access to nature is ideal.<br/><br/>POTTY TRAINING <br/>Yes - She's potty trained. Still learning to communicate the need to go outside. Under supervision, no accidents.<br/><br/>Comfort Level with Strangers<br/>Social butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. <br/><br/>Social with dogs?<br/>Shyla wants to greet every dog! She is learning boundaries and limitations, especially when other dogs do not want to be approached.<br/><br/>Social with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)<br/>Yes, for most ages – very confident, gentle, and tolerant. Shyla is still a puppy and needs to be supervised when a little person is tempted to give her treats.<br/><br/>Social with cats?<br/>Yes - would be okay in a home with children if the adopter has experience with dogs and cats <br/><br/>Mouthy Behaviour<br/>Working on it – Is respectful of hands, feet, etc., but likes to chew on things they're not supposed to, like shoes, furniture, etc. <br/><br/>SEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.)<br/>Adjusting – Might cry for a few minutes when you first leave the house, but settles pretty quickly and has no problem being left alone otherwise. <br/><br/>LEASH MANNERS<br/>Getting the hang of it – Sometimes will pull when overstimulated, but responds to correction. <br/><br/>CUDDLE BUG LEVEL <br/>Medium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood, but often stays in her own bed <br/><br/>JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLO<br/>Needs training – Very excited to greet everyone. Learning boundaries and manners. Currently, she will jump up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase. Shyla is just starting to listen to corrections after jumping.<br/><br/>CRATE TRAINING<br/>Yes – Comfortable in the crate, may whine a little at first but settles pretty quickly. The crate is used when Shyla is without supervision and at night. <br/><br/>Medical status:<br/>Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake<br/><br/>How did this dog end up with Social Tees?<br/>Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. <br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old).
