SHUGGIE - JJ (Indianapolis Indiana's Story

(Long distance transportation options can be discussed to TOTALLY committed permanent situations for him). And remember we are under a time limit and that is urgent and NOW we need help) SHUGGIE is a 8 year old male, as of 2025. neutered and fully vaccinated Catahoula mix. Dad was a Catahoula and Mother was (ACD) Blue Heeler. He has HW tested and on prevention (Simparica Trio). He is totally house broke. He had one accident one Christmas and he got into a stocking or food he shouldn’t sometimes it caused an accidents of tinkling.. he is definitely house broken. Owner error. He is fed twice day, Diamond Naturals skin and coat formula. He is fed by a slow feeder because he gobbles. All of his toys and special things go with him. (See history for reason for rehoming) He is a double Merle gened high white dog and shows he has some vision and possibly slight hearing impairment. He has occasional ear flare ups from yeast and contact allergies but this past year has not had a flare up. JCLDR has input on meds that will clear that up and maintain easily. Can be purchased through a veterinarian easily. It has proven very effective so not a big worry. He tests ehrlichiaosis positive but it is not active, it is just shows he has had it in the past. This is not uncommon. Being high white he would be more sensitive to contact allergies but he has not had anything chronic regarding that. This is again one of the common things in the high white Catahoulas. He needs slow introductions to new people as many Catahoulas and working breeds do. Once he knows someone and accepts them he remembers them always and he loves them them almost too much. No toddlers or small children for this boy. Owner feels he should be without any children. Could be overstimulated. He has no history of children aversion or reaction. We just feel this is best all around. Very loyal and extremely bonded to his owner and direct family. He has had two bite incidents, see ugly category for explanations below. He was in both incidences protecting his yard and space against those who should not have been there. DETIAL BELOW PLEASE READ. He loves to play with chuckit ultra large balls, he likes stuffed toys, he slowly tears them up but does not ingest. He likes activity toys and frozen treat toys. He loves water.. puddles and has a life jacket if he tells you he wants to go in deep water and he does well in both types of water. No cats or small toy breed dogs in his world nor domineering dogs. He gets along with a 30 pound male dog which is Pekinese mix., medium size, and plenty of mix, in his current home, been with him his entire life. They are not bonded but they do get along as long as food and high end resources are not in the mix when they are unsupervised. Supervised they take treats from their owner with no competition and no problems. He handles on leash like a typical leash puller, nose to the ground and all new territory to explore but he does respond to light correction. He also responds to a Nylon double loop martingale. He can be leash reactive to some dogs but it is random and not consistent. He takes cues from his handler and is sensitive to their reaction. Confidence he responds to. He likes to ride in the car, he does show some excitement at first and really he prefers to be secured in the vehicle or in a crate. He feels more settled and secure. Vet visits they did give him a pre calming drug and did muzzle but the last visit he was much more relaxed with them. The owner goes with him and handles him and he is very treat motivated.. and that all helps him accept strangers handling him. He is good with his owner clipping his nails and she used the clippers with the guard to keep from quicking him. In the board and train program he is ok to let them do that and bathe him. Because he is white we recommend that he doesn’t get bathes that strips his oils from his coat..not very often.. and he never smells. Owner clips nails and brushes him and that keeps his coat in the best condition, she can clean out his ears and he is good with these grooming things at home. He talks to her when she does it and he seems to like it. He does love his open wire crate and feels secure in it. He goes in voluntarily when he wishes to. He is not destructive unless food is left out.. he is a counter surfer like many Catahoulas. He loves food. He will chase and catch small animals and birds.. he has hunting and normal prey drive. He can be in a yard unsupervised but he prefers to be very near to his owner. He will sun bathe a bit but he is very much connected to his owner as many Catahoulas are.

HISTORY: There was a neighbor who had puppies and he was one of the litter. This owner has had him since he was 8 weeks old. The only reason she is rehoming is because her Mother in law is old and needs her and her husband to go to overseas and the dogs cannot go and he would be in a miserable environment where they have to live. We have a SHORT SHORT time frame to find him a home. If interested please do not delay. JCLDR will take a complete committed foster home for him as well that will fit in with our foster requirements and he can stay a foster dog in the right home under our care and with a loving foster for the rest of his days if someone wants to commit to that. Or he can be adopted to the right home.

GOOD: Yes he is a special needs Catahoula but he is a special dog deserving a new home for he has been loved and will miss his family terribly and his family will miss him but.. He needs a new connection. We do have extra photos and videos and vet records as well as all his favorite equipment will go with. He is extremely loyal and is a good protector and watch dog; reasonably. He is very in tune with the emotions of others. He reads his owners body language and is very trusting of her. He is extremely cuddly with his owner. Extremely intelligent and loves to learn new things. No digging in the yard. He is a funny goofy personality. He has gone camping, stayed in motels and hotels and has been a good quiet guest. His owner has done a lot of traveling with him. No bad things to report there. He is crated in the motel and hotel rooms. He loves to sing with sirens and his owner encourages that.. it is a fun thing between. He has never jumped or climbed fences or baby gates which his owner at times has used to restrict him. Owner will give a list of all his verbal commands for any new owner. He does work on a lot of hand signals, he knows some agility work and someone could set that up in his yard. It is good entertainment for him and stimulus. He is a vocal dog, he talks, he is cute and a little sassy.. has to have his say. His owner is heartbroken to have to rehome him. It is in his best interest.

BAD:Meeting new individuals. One on one is best and slow.. giving him time to judge character and sometimes he is fine at first but sometimes it takes him a few introductions for him to get a feel for someone. He is not a party dog with a crowd.. he warms up slowly to individuals one on one. If he is out and wants to be near you he will bark and be vocal until you respond. He is an alert protective dog when it comes to his home, family and space. That is not really a bad quality.
