Shelby ADOPTED:)'s Story

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE: To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in.

Here is the Dog Application that you can copy and paste into a browser: https://fs17.formsite.com/waverlypetrescue/form028182466/index.html

Shelby was a Bremer County stray. She did not get claimed and she also did not have a microchip. Waverly Pet Rescue took her on once her time was up and she is now living in a foster home. Shelby is now up to date on shots, spayed, and heartworm negative.

Shelby is a puppy and about 7-months-old. She weighs 32 pounds but still has some growing to do so will get bigger perhaps weighing 35-45 pound. Shelby is a very sweet and friendly young girl! She is very adorable too! She is very energetic and of course very puppy like. She is learning to walk on a leash and will need continued training in a new home. She has been in her foster home for 2-weeks now and is doing great! gets along with our pups and doesn't chase the cat. She has not been around children. Might be best with older kind children who know how to get out of the way when she has the zoomies. No food aggression. Did good in a kennel at the vet office with no accidents, did not rip up her blanket, and only barked to remind you she was in there. She is working on housetraining in her foster home and will need continued training in a new home. She is very spunky and hard to get good pictures of, haha. She loves to cuddle. If you meet Shelby, you are going to fall in love with her!

3/17/26 UPDATE: Shelby does really good outside, she sticks with us and comes when called. We do not think she should be left alone outside if you are not out there with her. So she would need a tie-our or a fenced in yard would be even better. We are picking up her signs when she needs to potty, she is doing very well with house-training. She gets a little extra bouncy so that's how you know she needs to go outside. She lives in the foster home with teenagers and she adores them. She would not try to hurt a small child but might knock one over by accident. Shelby loves car rides and does great in the car.

$250.00 adoption fee for Shelby.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $450 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
