Shay's Story

Meet Shayla — A Sweet Soul Looking for Her Second Chance

Shayla is a 1.5-year-old, 45-pound sweetheart who has been through more than any dog should have to endure — but despite her rough start, she has nothing but love to give. This beautiful girl has the sweetest personality and the most adorable, soulful eyes that seem to say, Please love me. And once you meet her, its hard not to fall in love.

Shayla absolutely loves people and is always ready to give hugs and soak up attention. She is a gentle, loving girl who just wants to be near her humans. She is kennel trained and potty trained, making her a wonderful companion for a family looking for a dog who is ready to settle into a home.

Shayla enjoys the company of other animals too! She is good with cats, great with kids, and does well with most dogs. She can be a little enthusiastic during playtime and sometimes forgets how big she is, so she would do best with dogs who enjoy her playful energy or with a family willing to help her continue learning appropriate play manners.

Shaylas journey hasnt been easy. She was originally adopted through another organization, but sadly she was later returned severely underweight, and it appeared she had gone through the stress of having a litter of puppies. Despite everything she has experienced, Shayla has remained sweet, trusting, and full of affection. She has since been spayed, fully vaccinated, and is ready to start the happy chapter of her life that she deserves.

Shayla is currently heartworm positive, and she will need an adopter who is willing to continue her heartworm treatment plan as recommended by our veterinarian. Cause For Paws Rescue will cover the cost of the treatment recommended by our vet, so her new family can focus on helping her heal and thrive.

For those unfamiliar with heartworm disease, heartworms are parasites spread through mosquito bites that can affect a dogs heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Treatment is available, and many dogs go on to live happy, healthy lives after completing their treatment. During treatment, dogs typically need to have their activity restricted while their body safely clears the infection. Continuing monthly heartworm prevention after treatment is an important part of keeping dogs healthy and preventing future infections.

Shayla has already overcome so much, and now she is looking for someone who will show her that life can be filled with love, comfort, and kindness. She deserves a family who will see past her past and give her the forever home she has been waiting for.

If youre looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with a heart of gold, Shayla may be the perfect match.

Shayla is available for adoption through Cause For Paws Rescue. Applications can be found at causeforpaws.net.

Cause For Paws's Adoption Policy
In order to encourage folks to rescue homeless Orphans, we try to make the rescue experience as non-invasive and pleasant as possible. First, an application is completed prior to meeting any of our orphans. Since we do not have a shelter, it’s important to be able to pre-qualify folks that will be making appointments with fosters, to meet any of our orphans. We do a vet check, to verify all current or previous dogs are up to date on vaccines, heartworm testing, heartworm prevention, and are either spayed or neutered. We may also contact references listed on the application when there is no previous vet information, or where more information is needed. We’ll then contact you to arrange a home visit, which is merely an opportunity to ask and answer any questions regarding our process. Since most of our orphans have already been in a situation that was not right for them, we want to do whatever it takes to allow them to succeed. It is not our intent to set a dog or a family up for failure.
