Shanna's Story

Breed: English Setter
Sex: Female, spayed
Age: 6 years
Weight: 47 lb
Location: MO
Good with other dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Yes
Good with kids: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Housebroken: Yes
Health: Very good
Microchip: Yes

Beautiful Shanna (Pronounced “SHAH-nah”) came to us as a stray. It took her some time to settle in, but she is now doing great!

Shanna is the embodiment of love and devotion. She actively wants to be with her human. She doesn’t care what the activity is, she just wants to be included. She has gone with her foster mom into Costco to pick up prescriptions and groceries and behaved beautifully. She stood quietly to the side to wait till needed. She loves to meet people and did quite well when she met the foster mom’s two-year-old grandson.

She enjoys toys but does not play with them. She likes to keep a large stuffed animal nearby, usually under her arm. At times she uses it as a pillow. She sees her toys as companions, rather than toys right now.

Shanna would love a yard to play in, but she also loves to go for walks and is good on the leash - unless there is a bunny nearby. She just loves those bunnies and can either freeze in point or pull on the leash when she sees one. A well-fenced yard is required for her, and she would love a companion dog to romp with. However, she truly loves setting out for her walks.

She is house trained, and crate trained and gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home. At the vet clinic, she has approached other animals gently, as if she understands they don’t feel well. Cats are clearly family to her. She idolizes “her” cats - even to the point of bathing them! Shanna is hoping for a home with at least one cat!

Despite how much she loves to walk, Shanna is laid back and has an innocent demeanor. Shanna can be vocal, making a sweet sound that is like a cross between a yawn and a “roo”. She can also do a brief interlude of singing if she thinks she can get another treat that way! Shanna loves to be Queen of the household and is not shy about expressing it.

Shanna came to us with a docked tail. Since she cannot tell us the history, we are guessing that she was a sufferer of “happy tail” and likely had a damaged tail that needed to be docked. She is a sweetheart and wags what is left of her tail quite often. This wonderful wiggling is quite endearing! She also arrived with what we thought might have been an elbow tumor, but it turned out to be an infection that was easily treated and cured.

If Shanna seems like she would be a good fit for your active household, please put in an application!

https://www.abetteresetter.org/adopt

We are a national breed rescue group and our process is designed to make sure we are very careful in the placement of all of our rescue dogs. Here's the link to our online adoption application in case you haven't already started. https://www.abetteresetter.org/adopt There is no cost or obligation for completing the application. Within a few days you'll receive a phone call from one of our volunteers to discuss your application. We do check vet references and conduct home visits. If you haven't been through a breed rescue adoption process, it may seem lengthy at first but it is just intended to make sure each individual/family adopts the right dog for your family and home. In our rescue they are fostered in a home and our intention is that they are never abandoned or let down again.
