Meet Shamu

Shamu is a hunky, chunky, bouncy boy originally from Florida. He is a blue American Bully and estimated to be around 3 years old.

Shamu roamed the streets of Plantation, FL for seven months evading capture in late 2020. Finally caught in Spring 2021, Shamu received stellar care and started developing life skills. He was part of a thorough training program for several months to teach him how to feel safe and set him up for success in his new life.

Shamu has INCREDIBLE obedience skills thanks to the dedication of his trainers in FL. He is crate trained, house trained, and has lived with other animals and older children! His leash manners are fantastic, and for a hunk this size, we always appreciate when they are gentle walkers!

At this time, Shamu does best with female dogs and super submissive, goofy males. Shamu has incredible impulse control and does his best to avoid conflict if it arises, but he is confident enough to stand up for himself if antagonized by a pushy male.

Shamu has shown indifference to cats!

This giant ham loves every person he meets! His flaw, however, is he is not always trusting of certain types of handling. Though his trainer and foster home in FL spent countless hours conditioning Shamu to feel safe when his feet and abdomen were handled, if touched unexpectedly behind the neck, on the back, or legs, Shamu can react in fear. Because of this, Shamu needs a conscious adoptive family and likely children over 12.

This meatball was failed by humans early on, and rescued by the most dedicated angels in Florida. His foster family doted on him for months and Shamu found himself in what he thought was finally a forever home. However, these adopters were not as conscious as they should have been with handling, and Shamu reacted in self defense, which is how he found himself looking for a rescue like us--that will give him another chance. We firmly believe Shamu just needs TIME and a gentle environment to feel safe, and in his several weeks with us so far, we have seen this boy adapt to a hugely different environment and take every new challenge and idea in his stride!

Shamu, in his first few days with us, did display resource guarding of high value chews or bones. We have not had this behavior pop up since he has settled in, but it is something that could pop back up under duress or a huge life change like entering a new home.

Shamu LOVES the water--his ideal home with give him a pool in the warm months and hopefully many trips to the water front, if not his own beach!

Overall a couch potato, with no destructive tendencies when left home, we believe Shamu could easily adapt to an active or not-so-active home, even one where he was at home snoozing while his family was away during the day. Shamu is the lowest maintenance, activity level wise, of all of the dogs in our care at this time. So if you're looking for a lazy snuggle partner, who still loves to play when the opportunity arises, this is your man!

An approved application is the first step to meeting any available animals.

All dogs in our care are up to date on vaccinations, heartworm/lyme testing, monthly flea and tick preventative, monthly heartworm preventative, fecal testing, and are spayed/neutered prior to adoption if not already.

All dogs in our care leave on foster-to-adopt contracts for the first 14-30 days in potential homes. These contracts set clear boundaries and expectations for potential adopters to ensure dogs are kept safe and set up to succeed in their transitions. If you are interested in adopting, please email allearsrescue@gmail.com.

If you are looking to adopt a dog, any current dogs in your home must be up to date on Rabies, Distemper and Kennel Cough, heartworm/Lyme testing, monthly flea and tick preventative, monthly heartworm preventative, fecal testing, and be spayed/neutered. If you have any current cats in your home, they must be up to date on their Rabies, Distemper, flea/tick medication, and be spayed/neutered.
