Shaggy's Story

Shaggy is a one-year-old Lhasa Apso mix Milwaukee Pets Alive rescued from Milwaukee animal control. Upon being rescued, Shaggy looked pretty rough with matting and some minor injuries, but with patience and a couple of grooming appointments under his belt, he is looking pretty spiffy. Don't let his "little old man" appearance fool you ... this young man has all the bounce and excitement of a young dog!

In addition to being housetrained, Shaggy knows "sit" and is learning other skills in his foster home, like "down." This type of training is so important for Shaggy, especially since he can be quite shy and nervous around new people. After a few minutes of warming up, Shaggy is happy to rub up against you and even offer his belly for petting; he also gives gentle kisses for the humans he feels most safe around.

Shaggy interacts positively with most dogs, including ones much bigger than him, and his wiggly tail will tell you when he's feeling comfortable with new people. Shaggy is currently in a foster home with cats and while he shows interest in them, he respects their boundaries as well.

Given his size and shyness, we're seeking a home for him without young children for this sweet and spunky pup. A potential family for Shaggy will be ready to help him build confidence and be attentive to his body language for signs of stress. Shaggy is looking for a forever family committed to the daily exercise and training he needs to help him be the best dog he can be!

Shaggy's adoption fee is $125 and, like all MPA fosters, he is microchipped, neutered and fully vaccinated. If you live in the greater Milwaukee area and would like to meet this handsome boy, email adopt@milwaukeepetsalive.org!

About Milwaukee Pets Alive

Milwaukee Pets Alive is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to ending the killing of Milwaukee's homeless pets through comprehensive programs and resources benefiting and serving the people and companion animals of Milwaukee first. Our top priority is that all healthy, treatable and rehabilitatable animals at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) achieve live outcomes.
