Shadow's Story

Shadow is a playful, praise-loving two-year-old who sticks close like the best kind of shadow. He’s quick to engage and happy to follow your lead. Shadow is eager to learn and when training is over, he believes break time is for resting and scratches! His fun loving nature makes him a great fit for anyone looking for a lively and loyal companion. Shadow has enjoyed playing with other dogs and if you have four-legged family members, please bring them so everyone can meet each other!

Shadow has been microchipped, neutered, and fully vaccinated. He has tested positive for heartworms, but the disease is not contagious and is curable with medication that is covered by HSNT. Shadow’s adopters have a chance to give him both a home and good health. And they’ll be rewarded with a lifetime of grateful puppy kisses!

If you want a dog who stays by your side and brightens the day, Shadow is ready to go home.

Volunteer perspective:
Shadow is a sweet, playful boy who absolutely adores praise and back scratches! He also gives hugs, which my 12 year old and I loved receiving. I think Shadow is smaller in person than he looks in his photos. He was great with my son and really enjoyed playing with him. Shadow even got into the pool to cool off on a hot day, which was so fun to see!

Doggy Day Out Adventure
We were excited to take Shadow on a little road trip and our first stop was Ace Hardware—our new favorite DDO destination. At this point, I think I need to ask them for a friends-and-family discount because I apparently can't walk past the rawhide aisle without buying my furry passenger a chew. Shadow was no different. He proudly carried his rawhide around the store like he had a little cigar in his mouth, then decided the covered entryway was the perfect spot to sit down and enjoy it. So, we did. Customers walking in stopped to say hi, and Shadow greeted every single one with a happy tail wag. This boy has never met a stranger!

Then it was off to Whataburger, where I learned that not every dog shares my enthusiasm for French fries. Shadow finally decided to try one...when there was exactly one fry left in the bag. After a salty treat, Shadow was ready for his Andy’s pup cup. He kept peeking at the window like, "Excuse me, I believe you have something for me." When it arrived, he ate it so politely and delicately that the employees were smitten and brought him a second one. That one disappeared considerably faster.

Now, his pup cup manners? Impeccable. His water-drinking-in-my-car manners? Let's just say my backseat looked like we drove through a rain shower with the windows open on the way home. But I digress...

Shadow is just one of those dogs that's ridiculously easy to love. He rode perfectly in the car, was amazing with my son, loved every person he met, and was simply happy to be wherever we were. He's affectionate without being needy, playful without being wild, and would fit into so many families.

I truly don't understand how he's still waiting. Whoever adopts Shadow isn't just getting a great dog—they're getting an instant best friend. I really hope his people find him soon, because this sweet boy is more than ready to love them.
