Scruffy's Story
Scruffy has quite a mysterious past. He mysteriously ended up at a Los Angeles area shelter. No one claimed him, no one missed him. He was just forgotten. A volunteer alerted us to his predicament, knows that our rescue has a soft spot for the smushy-faced breeds (both canine and feline). We agreed to take him into our rescue and made arrangements for him to be neutered and vetted, in preparation for his trip. Sometime between the time the volunteer saw this homeless dog, and the time she went to pick him up (just a couple of days), Scruffy had a violent encounter. He had been attacked and had several deep wounds on him. Additionally, his ribs were pulled away from his rib cage. This poor boy was in such pain, our volunteer couldn't touch him. He tried to bite the hand that wanted to pet him. Being touched was torture for this boy. How did this happen? Another mystery. The shelter's vet agreed to 'fix him up.' Yes, he did, but it was not done properly, it was not acceptable. Rescued Paws took this horribly injured dog to a Veterinarian Hospital, where he was 'put back together' properly. He has been recuperating in foster care, receiving lots of TLC, gentle words and a soft bed. When this photographer arrived to meet him on June 9, he timidly approached, allowing some soft touches to his battered body. What this poor boy has been through... We have made a commitment to Scruffy (who wants his name changed because he's not 'scruffy' anymore) to find him a loving Forever Home. This boy will still need some gentle handling, but he's progressed so far from the abuse he suffered. He just needs to be reminded that he is loved and wanted. The moment you see him, it won't be hard to make that commitment to him. Our rescue has incurred over $500 in Vet costs, putting Scruffy back together. If you can help us with this expense, it would allow us to help other dogs like Scruffy, 'throw-aways' that no one wants, no one cares about. There is a PayPal button at the end of this biography. Your tax-deductible donation is greatly appreciated.
