Scarecrow's Story

Here is an update on Scarecrow from her foster home. 🐾

Scarecrow is water loving, food driven, loyal, and a medium traveler (meaning she likes to go some places but not everywhere). Hikes and more low key places? She’s in. Busy breweries or noisy downtown streets? She’ll hold down the fort at home until you get back.

Scarecrow benefits from the company of other confident dogs and she doesn’t mind cats. Kids can be intimidating so slow intros and older kids would be best. She is independent, vocal, and loves to sniff!!!

She’s never had an accident inside her foster home though she prefers to potty in a fenced yard vs on leash. Scarecrow needs patient adopters who will give her a calm space to adjust and learn that they are good people.

Scarecrow is an amazing companion you don’t want to miss out on. She loves her person deeply and will give gentle kisses and hugs.

Scarecrow is currently in a foster home. If interested in adopting Scarecrow, please message us at shelter@madisoncountync.gov or call us at 828-649-3190.

Scarecrow landed in the shelter after her owner was badly injured in a car accident, no longer able to care for Scarecrow. Her first weeks at the shelter were heartbreaking with Scarecrow cowering in the corner of her kennel, scared of new people and new environment. Over time, we saw her begin to blossom. She is still scared of new people, but she loves to be snuggled by those she knows well.
Scarecrow will need a special, patient, gentle person who understands good things come to those who wait. She needs someone who will go at her pace and keep her feeling safe as she enters the next phase of her journey in a new home.
