Sawyer's Story

We're convinced that Sawyer isn't a German Shepherd...he's just gotta be the most loving big ol' teddy bear ever in a German Shepherd disguise

And you wouldn't believe by seeing this video that our boy Sawyer is a hospice case Seeing pets of ours who are hospice living in the shelter is a very difficult aspect of our job. It makes it even harder when the hospice pet is as good of a dog as Sawyer is Sawyer still has quality of life but we cannot guarantee how long he has left and we hate seeing him spend time in the shelter when he should be in a home.

Sawyer's kidney function is extremely poor and is not improving. He is positive for heartworms, Ehrlichia, anaplasmosis and Lyme disease. We know Sawyer needs a special adopter, and we also know he is absolutely worth it. Sawyer is just as deserving, maybe even more deserving, of a home. We're hoping the waived fee can help offset any future medical expenses he may need.

We have already begun his heartworm treatment (he only has one injection left) and we put him on a diet to hopefully help his kidney levels. We are looking for an adopter who will ensure Sawyer can visit the vet when needed.

Sawyer's personality reminds us of a Marmaduke or Scooby Doo type of pup. You will be provided with endless smiles and unconditional love. He is the most likeable and lovable dog Our days instantly brighten when we get to be with Sawyer. He melts into affection.

He will be available as a "foster-to-adopt" so he can complete his heartworm treatment. As with any dog with heartworms, he'll need to be leash-walked and have limited high-energy activity during his treatment. Depending on your resident dog, Sawyer may enjoy their company if they're medium/large sized and neutral! It'd be totally okay if it was just Sawyer as the sole furbaby in his new home. Kiddos should be about 10ish and older for Sawyer.

Sawyer is 81 pounds, is about eight years old and he is neutered so please come meet him. He has every characteristic that you would want in a new best friend. He's such a sweet, handsome hunk Will you be Sawyer's hero?
