Savanah's Story

Hi my name is Savanah but my friends call me Savvy!
I am an 8 mos spayed female puppy who has already learned so much since I arrived!

Savvy is a Bernese Mountain Dog/Australian Shepherd/mix who was surrendered through no fault of her own when her family felt they were not able to give her all of the time and attention that she deserves.

To be considered as Savvy's forever family:
You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile. Introducing yourself or expressing interest is not an application

Her temperament and energy is more in keeping with her Bernese genetics, laid back and cuddly vs high energy, but she will thrive with an active lifestyle of course as a young dog. She ADORES her people and loves to be with them, so a family who is home more often would be ideal.

Savvy is not suitable for families with young children due to her shyer nature and would be overwhelmed in a very noisy busy home.
As a busy young pup, she is not suitable for elderly caregivers with a life expectancy of up to 15 years

Savvy's appetite has improved for mealtimes but when on a leash and working she will sometimes refuse a food reward. She is not overly food motivated.

Savvy will approach strangers and greet them nicely. She is more reserved with men but will still approach and greet them. Savvy will need more work on socialization to continue to increase her confidence.
Her adoption contract requires mandatory registration with a positive method trainer in a class environment to continue building her social and training skills.

She doesn't currently have separation anxiety but the potential is there as her breed mix predisposes her to sep anxiety. Recommended that she have her entire family participate in her care and training to reduce the likelihood of this developing.

Savvy is a gentle and sweet girl who is a bit on the shy side. Her confidence, however, grows daily. Her new parents will need to work on getting Savvy out and about to new environments and meeting people to help continue to build her confidence

Savvy would do well in a multi-dog home or as a single dog. While she would enjoy country living with a fenced yard she would also do well in an urban setting.

Because of her size, Savvy would do well in a home with owner's familiar with larger breeds as well as owners who are comfortable with heavier shedding. She would do better in a setting where her people are with her most of the time.

Notes:
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission
* Fenced yard is mandatory for Savvy due to her shy nature that increases flight risk

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON after your application has been approved.
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs if you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

Savvy's adoption fee is $650
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dental, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a virtual home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. All dogs are in private foster family homes, not a facility.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
