Sarge's Story

SARGE: AN OFFICER AND AN ABSOLUTE GENTLEMAN.

Sarge would like to clarify that his military service is entirely fictional, his rank is self-appointed, and he has never successfully commanded anything larger than a tennis ball. Nevertheless, he expects to be addressed with the respect befitting a decorated war hero.

Born January 22, 2026, Sarge is an approximately 8-month-old, 43-pound Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix with the magnificent brindle coat of a woodland creature, the tail of an extravagant feather duster, and the general appearance of someone who has been living in the mountains composing poetry about sheep.

Despite his formidable title, Sarge possesses approximately zero commanding authority. He is extraordinarily sweet, wonderfully dog-friendly, and appears to have confused his assignment to protect the kingdom with an opportunity to become everyone's favorite person.

He's currently quite underweight, so his 43 pounds represent an unfinished architectural project. We anticipate a considerably larger gentleman once construction is complete. Prospective families should prepare for a substantial amount of dog, both physically and emotionally.

Sarge is vaccinated, heartworm negative, and accepting applications for the prestigious position of Permanent Civilian Companion. No military experience necessary. Previous experience distributing affection and maintaining an adequate snack inventory strongly preferred.

SARGE. Reporting for duty. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq

Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.

***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures.
