Santa Rosa's Story
Santa Rosa (we call her Rosa) is white with tan markings. She has a smooth coat with short legs and a long body. Her sister had a DNA test done with the following results: 31% Bassett Hound, 23% Siberian Husky, 14% Boxer, 8% Pug and 7% Chow Chow are the main contributions. The Bassett Hound personality is the dominant personality traits I see in her.

She is a sweet lovable pup who will flop over for a belly rub anytime she thinks one may be a possibility. The vets estimate that she was born 12/10/25 +/- 3 days at most. Rosa and her 6 liter mates were left at a dump in Kentucky. HART rescued them on 1/22/26 at 6 weeks old. Rosa weighed 4 pounds at 6 weeks old and 22 pounds at 19 weeks old, the DNA results say she should weigh between 35-45 pounds. .

Rosa is a confident, easy going fun loving pup. She likes children, adults, and other dogs. Although she is a bit cautious when first meeting a new dog (especially a loud dog), she is soon wanting to play with them. She enjoys playing, chasing, and wrestling with her siblings. She has been around 5 adult dogs (40-55 lbs.) during play dates.

She is a little spooked by loud noises. Rosa has been around 5 younger children (4-11 years old) and takes rough handling well. She is a sweet gentle pup. She has just started walking on a lead so he will needs additional training.

Rosa is crate trained and is doing great with house training, she hasn’t had an accident in the house in several weeks. I leave her in the kitchen when I’m away for 2-3 hours without any accidents. She rides well in the car but has gotten car sick a couple of times.

The vet believes that she’ll grow out of that in time. Rosa’ activity level is about average to a bit below average. She’ll play in the yard with other dogs if around, but laid back if by herself in the house.

Rosa would do well with another dog that likes to play, she may work to get other dogs to play which could be a bit much for older dogs. She is not a dominant dog, always gives into the beagle in the house. She sleeps quietly through the night in her crate (9:30 to 7:00). She enjoys chew toys, tug-of-war, and chewing on sticks.

She is food motivated, so training should be easy. Rosa would do best with a fenced yard, as she loves to wonder around sniffing and playing with anything she can find. If you think Rosa could be a good fit, please submit an application and the foster will bring him to your house for a visit.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks!
