SANDMAN's Story

• Smart and eager to learn • Affectionate cuddle bug • Playful and social Sandman is a lovable, goofy tripod with a big personality and an even bigger heart. When he went to foster for a bit, he settled beautifully into home life and clearly enjoyed being part of the family. He’s house trained, crate trained, learned to ring a bell to go potty, and loves having a cozy routine that includes naps, walks, chew toys, and lots of affection. He gets along well with other dogs and loves inviting them to play. Tug-of-war is one of his favorite games and he’s especially sweet with smaller dogs, often letting them “win.” Frozen kongs, chew toys, and cuddle time help him unwind and he’s become quite the couch companion. Sandman is very food and toy motivated, which makes him easy to train. He already knows “sit,” responds well to redirection, and has been making steady progress on leash manners. He can get excited when he sees other dogs on walks, but he’s improving with guidance and responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. He’s a smart dog who learns quickly when expectations are consistent. He would likely thrive in a home with older kids and would love a canine playmate. He’s also wonderfully tolerant with grooming, enjoys bath time, and happily soaks up attention from his people. Sandman is the kind of dog who will make you laugh daily with his silly antics then immediately melt into you for cuddles at the end of the day. He’s looking for a patient, active home that will continue helping him grow into the amazing companion he’s already becoming.

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
We ask that everyone in the household meet the potential new furry family member. Come look through the profiles of our residents available at our front counter, and walk a dog or play with a cat. We are always happy to answer questions about a pet and help you decide whether he will be a good fit. If you rent, you will need to supply a copy of your lease stating you are allowed to have pets. If you own, you will need to supply proof of home ownership.   Each animal leaves with its first set of shots, dewormer and flea treatment. All animals are spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to going home. All dog adopters receive a $200 credit toward canine training. You will also receive a health exam certificate that entitles you to a free "healthy pet" checkup at a local veterinarian clinic.  FAAS located at the North end of Grand St at 1590 Fortmann Way. Adoption hours are noon-4PM Tuesday through Sunday. (We are closed Mondays.)
