Samson's Story
Hi, I’m Samson,

I’m a 7-year-old Golden Retriever with a gentle heart and so much love to give. I absolutely love pets and cuddles, and I’m known to lean right into you or gently nudge you with my head or paw to ask for just a little more love. Being close to my people is one of my favourite things. I’m a big sweetheart with the calmest, kindest temperament, just an all-around gentle boy.

Inside the house, I’m a very well-mannered gentleman. I like having my favourite spot where I can rest and relax while still keeping an eye on everything around me. I tend to choose a central place on the main floor where I can see all the comings and goings. If you leave the room, I might wander briefly, but I’ll always return to my spot and patiently wait for you. I’m happy to simply be near you while you go about your day, I’ll quietly relax while you work and never ask for more than a little love here and there.

I sleep soundly through the night and am overall a very easy, gentle companion to have by your side. I’ve been wonderful when left alone for a few hours, typically resting or napping peacefully until you return. I’m also great with visitors, happily accepting gentle pets from anyone who approaches me calmly, including older, dog-savvy kids.

Because of my mobility, I really appreciate having padded mats or rugs underfoot, as they help me feel stable getting up and down. Slippery floors can be a bit tricky for me, so a home set up with my comfort in mind makes a big difference. I don’t do stairs and won’t attempt them, so a main-floor living setup would be ideal for me.

When it comes to getting outside, I enjoy short, casual walks. I can be a little unsure at first with new surroundings, but with a calm voice and gentle encouragement, I gain confidence and continue along just fine. I walk with a limp, but I’m able to manage short distances and will even pick up the pace when I’m feeling motivated. I just need someone who will help guide me and keep my walks short and steady so I don’t overdo it. I especially love spending time in the backyard, lying in the grass, soaking up the sunshine, and listening to the world around me.

I have a great appetite and take food very gently. While I’m not too interested in most treats, I do have one special request… cheese! The “cheese tax” is very real in my world, and I’ll happily accept it with gratitude every time.

Life hasn’t always been easy for me. I came into rescue with an old injury that, unfortunately, can’t be surgically corrected. Because of this, I live with degenerative joint disease (DJD) and a persistent limp. If it could have been fixed, it would have been—but now the focus is on keeping me as comfortable and happy as possible.

My future family will need to be committed to supporting me with:

Daily anti-inflammatory medication (like Metacam)
Joint supplements such as glucosamine
A high-quality diet to support joint health and maintain a healthy weight
A lifestyle that includes gentle activity and lots of rest

With the right care, I’m doing well and most importantly, my spirit is as golden as ever.

I may not be the most active dog, but I make up for it in every possible way with my loving nature, calm presence, and unwavering companionship. I’m looking for a home that understands my needs and is happy to go at my pace—someone who sees the beauty in a quieter, slower life filled with meaningful moments.

A special adoption fee applies for me, as our hope is that my future family can focus their resources on my ongoing medical needs and comfort. Our team would be more than happy to discuss this further with any potential adopter.

I’ve got so much love to give and a heart that still shines so brightly. All I need now is a family who will embrace me just as I am and give me the comfort, care, and love I truly deserve.

Hugs,
Samson 🐾
