Sammy is a 3-year-old Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix weighing about 19 pounds of pure cuddle potential. He is a true lap dog who also loves to settle right at your feet, happy just to be close to his person. Calm, gentle, and affectionate, Sammy has done wonderfully around a 1-year-old child and is very patient and relaxed in her presence.<br/><br/>Sammy has a soft way of asking for love—he’ll gently hop up for attention rather than demanding it. He enjoys being outside and has become more playful as he settles in, showing off his curious side. Because of that curiosity, he does like to check the perimeter of the fence, so a secure yard or supervised outdoor time will be important.<br/><br/>He walks well on a leash outdoors, though he finds indoor leashes a bit confusing and may “stall” at first—something that should improve with routine and confidence. Sammy does currently wear a belly band in the house due to some marking, which is not uncommon during transitions and is expected to improve as he settles into a consistent new home.<br/><br/>Sammy would be a wonderful companion for an older person or anyone looking for a calm, loyal buddy. We are happy to coordinate a meet & greet for pre-approved adopters. To get started, please submit an adoption application at www.jasperslegacy.org/apply-to-adopt<br/><br/>Adoption process:<br/>Potential adopters complete our online application. From there, we contact them to continue the screening process including checking references, vet checks, and a personal phone interview. Upon completion, potential adopters are pre-approved.<br/><br/>From there, potential adopters are put in touch with the foster parent(s) of the dog they are interested in adopting. If a specific dog is not in mind, admins will make suggestions based on who we feel will be good candidates for their home. We take the foster's opinions into high consideration when determining ideal fit for an adoption.<br/><br/>Once the dog is determined to be a good fit for the adoptive home, the adopter is given advisement on decompression, training, safety gear, and future preventative vetting. The adoption contract is signed and adoption fee paid to finalize the adoption.
