Samantha's Story
Words from her foster daddy:
So, I wanted to introduce you to my newest foster, her name is now Samantha. I've had her for 2 weeks now & she is a fantastic pup. I say pup because she is just 11 months old & still has some growing to do.
She is a purebred Anatolian Shepherd, which is an ancient breed from Turkey that was bred to protect the farm.
This girl's personality is all AS & will need a family that is familiar with the breed & comfortable with large/giant breeds.
She will be anywhere from 80-100lbs. She will need another dog similar in size & age as she does well with my Dane & learns well in the pack environment. She is very smart, but this can be detrimental from a training standpoint as she can be stubborn.
She needs positive reinforcement training, as the breed doesn't take well to negative feedback & can turn on their trainer(700psi bite force).
Make sure you have plenty of toys for her to play with, fresh bones, Nylabones, kong toys, etc....
She supposedly had a chewing issue in her old home, but I haven't had any issues here.
She has no gaurding issues & will play tug-o-war with the other dogs.
She walks great for me on leash, but again this was supposedly an issue for her previous family.
She does occasionally need correction on a walk when she hears barking dogs, but she corrects easily for me.
She's strong & will only get stronger as she grows.
She doesn't show any toy or food aggression.
She will need a slow feed bowl as she eats extremely fast.
She may try to push your other dog(s) away from their bowls, but since I started feeding her more she hasn't done that any more.
She will clean out any left overs from the other bowls, so I just pick them up to avoid over feeding her.
This also means that grazers will have a challenge.
She's good with kids & supposedly was around a cat in her old home, but barks at loose cats on our walks.
She's an independent girl, so she's not overly cuddly, but she likes to play & comes to you when she wants attention.
She is protective of her home & her pack, not mean just verbal.
To apply to adopt Sam please fill out the screening application to start the process.
