Sally's Story

Introducing Sally, one of the sweetest English Setter girls you will ever meet. Sally is just shy of 2 years young and was surrendered to SWESR due to lack of prey drive. She has a gentle, soulful personality and a heart full of quiet sweetness. Since arriving in foster care, she has shown herself to be an easy, well-mannered companion— house-trained with excellent indoor behavior, no destructive tendencies and no storm or separation anxiety. She walks nicely on leash, loves going on walks, rides calmly in the car, and gets along beautifully with the resident English Setters and dogs she meets on walks. She has not lived with cats. Sally is also affectionate with people, including respectful of older children, and enjoys snuggling. While she has a playful side, she is currently on the lower-energy end for her breed, making her an appealing option for those seeking a young setter that is calmer.

Sally is still building confidence and can be quite timid, especially indoors. Everyday household noises like running water or sudden sounds can startle her, and she tends to retreat to a safe, quiet space when overwhelmed. This shy girl appreciates her own “safe” places to retreat and relax, the first spot she chose in her foster home was her foster parents bed. Furniture privileges and “safe spots” that Sally chooses in her forever home are a must for Sally. She will need a patient and understanding adopter who can give her the time and reassurance she needs to fully come out of her shell. Positive reinforcement, a predictable routine, and a low-noise environment will help her continue to blossom.

Sally lucked into the perfect foster home where someone is almost always home. She currently lives with two very dog savvy kids, ages 7 and 9 and two other English Setters, both male, along with her foster mom and dad. kids, ages 7 and 9 and two other English Setters, both male, along with her foster mom and dad. Although Sally does well with the kids she is stressed with all of the noise and busyness of them and would do best with older teenagers or no children. She will need a very patient adopter who is willing to give her time to settle into a new home and environment and kindly continue to teach her that life isn’t always scary and love does exist.

Sally is spayed and up to date on vaccinations and tests. Sally’s ideal home is calm, has a securely fenced and Setter interesting yard, and has another friendly, confident dog to help guide her. Sally clearly enjoys canine companionship. She prefers that her people and/or her fur-siblings go outside with her. She does get excited when she sees squirrels in her yard and will chase them with the other English Setters. She is suitable for families with older, dog-savvy children (7+ years) but may be uncomfortable in a busy or chaotic household. With patience and love, Sally has all the makings of a deeply loyal, affectionate companion who will reward her adopter with trust, devotion, and a truly special bond. Sally is pretty perfect for someone who is home a lot and willing to give her the love and patience she did not get before rescue.
