Sailor's Story
**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics.

Hi, I am Sailor, a female Bassett mix.. I was found as a stray in KY and brought to the shelter where they named me Sailor. Everyone thinks I'm a boy with that name but I am definitely a girl, so my foster mom calls me Sally. I'm about 1 year old and a very skinny 33 pounds. I am the sweetest girl who just wants someone to call my own. I walk very close to mom or right on her heels so I make sure she is always there. Because of this I would not be a good match for people who have balance issues.

I ride great in the car! If you like company going for drive thru stops or road trips I would love to come along. You have to remember with these warmer temperatures you can't leave me alone in the car. I'm very polite and extremely friendly so any dog friendly places you go I could go too.

I do OK on a leash but I'm sort of all over the place. Some work to keep me in a straight line would benefit you. I'm doing OK with housebreaking. I get a little confused because in my foster home there are little dogs who do not use the dog door, so there is a puppy pad on the floor and sometimes I will use that. When mom goes out I am crated. I'm not a fan of the crate so mom has to pick me up by my long body to push me in. I eat in the crate as well because I get so excited and that's when I do a lot of jumping around. Mom hopes that eating in the crate and getting treats when she goes out will make me feel more comfortable to walk in by myself....I think she's dreaming...LOL!!!

I'm a pretty easy going girl with a medium energy level. One thing I know I want is someone to be around. I don't want to spend my days living in a crate or alone waiting for you to come home. A person who works from home would be ideal. For being a hound girl I'm not a barker so if your work involves the phone I would be fine. There aren't any kids in my foster home but mom thinks with my easy disposition I would be fine as long as the kids are respectful.

I'm learning how nice it is to be petted and loved on, something mom doesn't think I've had before.

In my foster home I live with multiple dogs and do great with them. I don't think I would mind if I was the only dog as long as there are humans to love me. I'm not pushy about attention but I do want someone to love me forever. At night I sleep wherever I want, there's no need to be crated. Sometimes I try to get in bed with mom but she usually has a bed full and there isn't much room for me so I find a dog bed and curl up.

If you are looking for a sweet and calm companion I am the girl for you. Hope to meet you soon.

Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
