Staff will tell you immediately about Sage’s love of giving kisses - and there is just something wonderful you see when you look in her eyes. Sage is a great dog with very limited hearing. We do not think she is completely deaf but she does not hear much. Our resident dog training expert gave some advice below on what you might be curious about when considering a dog who communicates differently.
“Being deaf doesn’t stop a dog from their willingness to learn. In fact, they are some of the most attentive dogs I have ever worked with. Their nose and eyes guide their life. As a potential owner of a deaf dog, an adopter would learn how to communicate with their dog via tactile communication or visual. We already do that when we give our dogs hand signals to follow.“
