Ryanne's Story
* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 11th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event.
All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.

Adoption fee: $700
Meet Ryanne: From Super Mom to Someone's Sweetheart
Ryanne is a 1–2 year old Shih Tzu/Miniature Schnauzer mix who weighs 15 pounds. She has an adorable scruffy face, expressive eyes, and a charming wiry, low-shedding coat (although we can't promise she's allergy-friendly). After lovingly raising her puppies, Gosling and Reynolds, Ryanne has officially retired from motherhood and is ready to accept her next promotion: Professional Best Friend. She's spent her life taking care of everyone else. Now it's finally her turn to be the one who gets spoiled.
If Ryanne could write her own bucket list, it would be wonderfully simple. She'd ask for morning cuddles, leisurely walks, a backyard to explore, salmon treats whenever possible, a cozy place to nap, and a family to love. Honestly, she doesn't ask for much. She has a gentle, grateful heart and seems happiest simply spending time with her people.
Ryanne has blossomed into one of those dogs that quietly works her way into your heart. She's affectionate without being demanding, gentle without being timid, and happiest simply knowing her family is nearby. She's become a true Velcro girl who likes to keep tabs on her favorite humans while still giving everyone enough space to go about their day.
Her mornings begin around 7:00 or 8:00 with a trip outside, followed by breakfast, backyard exploring, and checking in with her foster dog sibling to make sure nothing exciting happened overnight. Ryanne enjoys leisurely meals, preferring to graze throughout the day rather than rush through breakfast. Add a little roasted chicken or salmon to her kibble and suddenly breakfast becomes a five-star dining experience worthy of a Michelin star.
She spends much of her day happily exploring the yard, supervising household activities, taking naps, and enjoying a relaxing afternoon walk. Evenings are for dinner, quiet family time, and soaking up all the love she can before bedtime.
One of Ryanne's biggest breakthroughs has been discovering that the dog door isn't a one-way street anymore.
At first, she'd happily come into the house through the dog door...
But going back out?
Absolutely not.
Apparently that required advanced engineering.
Then one day...
It clicked.
Now she confidently uses the dog door in both directions, giving herself backyard privileges whenever she pleases.
And with that newfound freedom came another exciting discovery...
TOYS!
Ryanne recently decided toys are actually pretty wonderful. Every day she proudly trots over to the toy box, carefully selects one toy, carries it outside, then heads back for another. And another. And another.
By the end of the day, the backyard looks like she hosted the neighborhood's tiniest toy convention.
Apparently every toy deserves a little fresh air.
Ryanne is also wonderfully smart. She already knows 'sit,' has excellent recall, understands 'go potty,' and responds beautifully to gentle guidance. If she starts investigating something she shouldn't have, a simple, 'Ryanne...uh-oh,' is usually enough for her to stop, think about her life choices, and decide that maybe the sock wasn't hers after all.
She's making excellent progress with house training, and now that she's confidently using the dog door both ways, everything continues getting easier. Her foster has put tremendous time into helping her succeed, so her future family won't be starting from scratch—they'll simply be continuing the wonderful habits she's already developing.
Ryanne is also an absolute pleasure on walks. She strolls politely on leash without pulling, frequently checks in with her person, and genuinely enjoys exploring the neighborhood together. She's friendly with the people she meets and remains calm when passing other dogs, making every walk relaxing and enjoyable.
She currently lives with a sweet 12-year-old female dog and enjoys the companionship very much. She's also met dogs of all sizes—including a giant German Shepherd—and has handled every introduction beautifully. Another friendly dog would certainly be a bonus, but more than anything, Ryanne simply wants people who love having a dog woven into their everyday lives.
One thing her foster absolutely loves is that Ryanne genuinely appreciates having her own cozy space. She happily relaxes in her exercise pen, where she eats, naps, and sleeps without complaint. In fact, she's the first foster dog her foster has ever had who seems to think, 'This little room is lovely...I'll just stay right here for a while.'
Ryanne would be a wonderful companion for someone who wants an easygoing dog to share life's simple pleasures—morning coffee on the patio, neighborhood walks, gardening in the backyard, movie nights on the couch, or quiet afternoons spent reading while she naps nearby.
Imagine looking out your back window to find one scruffy little girl proudly carrying yet another toy across the yard as though she's decorating for the world's cutest backyard playground.
Imagine hearing the gentle click of the dog door as she pops inside just to make sure you're still there...before happily heading back outside to continue her important toy relocation project.
Imagine ending every evening with a grateful little companion curled beside you, content simply because she's home.
Ryanne has already proven what an incredible little dog she is. She raised her babies with love, embraced a brand-new life in foster care, learned that people can be kind, and continues to surprise everyone with every new discovery she makes.
Now she's ready for the best chapter yet.
Not as someone's mama.
Not as someone's foster.
But as someone's beloved little girl. â¤ï ̧
