Rusty's Story
Rusty is looking for a home with experience owning power breeds. In the right hands, Rusty is the kind of dog that makes you wonder how you ever lived without him.
Honestly: Green Flag
3 years old / 85 lbs / Neutered

25.4% Presa de Canario, 21.1% APBT, 15% Mastiff, 12.2% Doberman 11% Supermutt 9.5% Am. Staff 5.8% Boerboel

Rusty joined us from a public shelter back in January, and he’s been quietly proving ever since that he’s what we like to call a total green flag dog.

He’s dog-friendly across the board: big, small, male, female, but because of his breed mix and the natural tendency toward same sex aggression, we’re looking for a female only dog home for long-term success. He’s also incredibly cat social, which is rare and pretty special for a dog of his size and makeup.

Out in the world, Rusty is easy. No reactivity, no nonsense. You can walk him with your pinky finger, and he’s content to just exist alongside you. Low energy, level-headed, and not looking to make a scene.

At home, he’s a little more honest about who he is. Rusty is naturally aloof with strangers, especially men, and he will let you know when someone new is around with a big, intimidating bark. It’s something his future home needs to be comfortable managing safely. He’s not a fan of the chaos that can come with young kids, so we’re recommending a home with children 10+ who understand boundaries and respect his space.

He’s not suited for a wire crate (he will break out), but does well in a steel crate or even left out; he’s not destructive. Once given space and structure, he settles quickly.

Rusty is the kind of dog that thrives with people who “get it.” If you have experience with guardian-type or power breeds and want a steady, loyal, low-key companion, he’s already everything you’re looking for.

Adoption Application: www.jasperslegacy.org/apply-to-adopt

************************
Rusty is located in a foster home. We are happy to coordinate a meet & greet for pre-approved adopters. To get started, please submit an adoption application at www.jasperslegacy.org/apply-to-adopt

Adoption process:
Potential adopters complete our online application. From there, we contact them to continue the screening process including checking references, vet checks, and a personal phone interview. Upon completion, potential adopters are pre-approved.

From there, potential adopters are put in touch with the foster parent(s) of the dog they are interested in adopting. If a specific dog is not in mind, admins will make suggestions based on who we feel will be good candidates for their home. We take the foster's opinions into high consideration when determining ideal fit for an adoption.

Once the dog is determined to be a good fit for the adoptive home, the adopter is given advisement on decompression, training, safety gear, and future preventative vetting. The adoption contract is signed and adoption fee paid to finalize the adoption.
