Ruger's Story

Ruger is a striking 2 yr old blue merle male with bright blue eyes, weighing around 55 lbs. He is up to date on vaccines and is neutered. He came to rescue after his family had a baby and learned that they couldn't meet his needs.

Ruger is your typical headstrong, friendly, velcro Aussie who wants to be in your pocket. He excels when he knows the expectations and boundaries, but he will test them first to make sure you really do mean it. His foster notes that his behavior is indicative that he hasn't had to respect or follow expectations so being in a structured household that's familiar with the Aussie brain is a new experience for him. He's a quick learner and has shown great improvement in being more respectful and polite - he really likes being told that he's a good boy!

Ruger does show some understanding of basic obedience commands, but it's likely that he may have considered those commands to be suggestions rather than something that was expected of him. That being said, he does show an eagerness to please and wants to be the bestest boy. His new home will need to be committed to continuing the training that his foster is currently doing.

He is housebroken and crate trained and he gets along well with the dogs living in the foster home. Ruger would thrive in an active home that allows him to stretch his legs and keep his brain busy. He does have an off-switch in the evenings but he is not a dog that can go days without a walk or exercise.

The details:

Needs a fence: No, but trusted recall will need to be established before going off lead.

Good with cats: Seems to be

Good with dogs: Yes

Good with kids: Yes, but better with ages 5 and up due to him wanting to jump up during greetings

All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Aussie Rescue of MN is here for support, advice and as a safety net for our dogs for the rest of their lives.
