Rufus's Story

Rufus
3 years, 20lbs

Meet Rufus! This little guy is 20lbs and three years young. Rufus is a single-eyed fellow but that doesn't affect his quality of life at all. He's a cheerful companion and friend to all. If you're looking for a friend for long walks and snuggles, Rufus is your guy.

Rufus was brought into the shelter in Texas with an eye injury, and after evaluation it was determined the best course of action for his ongoing health was for it to be removed.

Rufus is a sweet, calm, and gentle soul who is about as easy to love as a dog gets. He's house-trained, completely non-destructive, and treats every space he's in with total respect — he chews only his own toys and has never given his foster family a moment of worry. He's wonderful with kids, gets along great with other dogs and cats, and has zero food aggression, preferring to graze casually throughout the day at his own relaxed pace rather than inhaling his bowl the moment it hits the floor. That kind of easygoing energy pretty much sums Rufus up.

His ideal day looks something like this: a good morning walk, some time lounging in the yard soaking up the sun (water bowl nearby, shade available if needed), a cozy stretch on his dog bed, and plenty of time near his people. He loves being around the humans in his life and is polite about it too — if things get a little crowded, a quiet "down" is all it takes and he'll settle right beside you without fuss. He handles being home alone for typical stretches just fine, but he'd really thrive with someone who's home more often — a remote worker or retiree who wants a loyal, low-key companion for daily walks and quiet evenings would be his perfect match. He does best with free-roam rather than a crate, which is a non-issue given how trustworthy he is in the home. He does prefer a calm environment and is sensitive to loud noises. Rufus just wants a quiet spot in the sun and someone to come home to — and he'll give everything in return.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Rufus, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.

Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing aa dog from our rescue. True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
